Ep 5252. Neville Stone and Justine Baker - Once They Knew the Children's Story, Their LOVE Fostered All Four of Them
There are two love stories in this episode. First of all, it is the story of two people, one of whom was restricted by her perception of her Father's inadequacies and the other burnt by personal chaos endured as his life unfolded. Together, they found ways to liberate each other from painful pasts and create what is a dedicated, evolving and perhaps extraordinary love. You will learn methods and processes from Neville Stone and Justine Baker that assist any loving partnership to cope, to tolerate and to flourish. Here is an example. They talk of letting go of the need to cling and attach as an act of trust and faith in each other. The want to 'give space' to each other is their gift of love. However, it is the second love story that makes this episode extraordinary. Inspired by the foundation of love they have for each other, Neville and Justine have chosen to channel their love towards the wellbeing and emotional growth of 4 siblings, who have been scarred by earlier upbringings. Once Neville and Justine knew the story of these 4 children, the opportunity to foster care and raise them to better life was in their words a 'no brainer'. It might be a 'no brainer' for them, but the messages of this single act are profound. Would you be prepared to let go of all previous well laid plans for your life in order to unwrap this unexpected package of raising 4 children who biologically are not your own? Would you do so in the belief that life has another pathway for you that will bring you greater gifts?Would you do so in your 50's or 60's?The decision, the faith, the commitment is extraordinary. Absolutely amazing! Like me, I hope you fall in love with the notion that it is impossible to hate, if you thirst to know people's real story. If you know their story and their background, then you understand their behavior rather than judge it. This is an essence of Neville's and Justine's lifestyle. It is a valuable lesson for all.It is not surprising that their lives have been blessed by such wisdoms, as they both are avid learners, mainly through reading. They suggest that these books be 'top shelf' for you ...The Four Agreements by Don Miguel RuizFamilies and How to Survive Them by John Cleese and Robin SkynnerThe Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark MansonThe Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin ... Chad Foreman also recommended this one!The Richest Man in Babylon by George Samuel ClasonThe Prophet by Kahlil Gibran - one of my personal favorites!During the episode a reference was made to the leadership qualities of Mike Brearley, the great English Cricket Captain. For the record, his stats were 39 Tests at a batting average of 22.88, not those estimated by Bernie during the podcast. Apologies to Michael. Mind you Michael, I did have your batting average a little higher so spread the podcast if you want A Journey With Bernie to spread a brighter light on your batsmanship! One thing is certain, that if you listen intently to this episode and truly hear all of its wonderful messages, you will definitely be improving your batting average in this beautiful game called life. It will teach you how to play with different strokes and to attack the game with greater compassion and love.P.S. And if by chance you are interested in the pathway of looking after such children of need on a weekend or on a more permanent basis, then Neville or I would welcome your call.Bernie K +61 412 982 444 - [email protected] Stone +61 417 723 434

Ep 5151. Robert Wall - Master of Awareness!
When I first met Robert Wall just hours before the podcast recording, my immediate impression was ‘Wow’, there is wisdom in this soul! As the podcast discussion unfolded my initial impression was entirely validated. You can look forward to understanding different disguises of the ego and how it erodes your happiness and peace. Robert’s ancient story of philosophical masters, who taught us that the final Gateway to the Gods can only come by knowing thyself was enthralling. But what does that mean? This discussion will reveal. Perhaps the most interesting revelation in this podcast is Robert’s coaching that even as a child our innate tendencies, preferences and abilities are seeable. What’s more they really are a signpost to what will fulfil our purpose later in life. Wait until you hear how Robert ties my teenage successes with what I do today. It was masterful detecting work! The implication of course is for parents to see and accept these innate preferences within their child and support them so that their children can grow to do what they are meant to do. Surely, this is recipe for inner happiness. We shouldn’t be surprised by Robert’s offering because this dynamic entrepreneur has owned or founded companies in media, telecommunications, financial services, mining and education technology. He is the author of The People Key: Unlocking the Secrets to Getting Along with Anyone. The man is an innovator in the fields of leadership, culture and personal development. As founder and CEO of ‘Natural Ability’ Robert and his team simply empowers organisations to become so much more. His primary tool is teaching the power of true and deep self-awareness. You will get a taste of his wisdom in this podcast, that’s for sure. You might even appreciate it even more on YouTube where you can see this inspiring discussion unfold. Ep 5050. PodPro Australia's Adam Bell ... Bringing Light to Personal Darkness … A Testimony!
There are two stories here. The first is a service to you our listeners. Why not celebrate our 50th episode by announcing that A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE has gone VISUAL. You called for it. You got it and YOU WILL BE DELIGHTED. There is no doubt that when you can see the impressions on the faces of our guest and host, it just adds value to the communication experience. Simply search for A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE - EPISODE 50 on YouTube and you will see all the studio action. You deserve this and we are delighted to see you on your iPhone, your Samsung, your Laptop even your Smart TV. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/lM3fT-9zSOA?si=OJgzR9FJUXhvKVXRThe second story is one of evolving transformation. It is a story when Adam Bell bravely woke up one day and simply shouted 'ENOUGH'. He had had ENOUGH of waking up feeling neutral, feeling as if he was just EXISTING in this game of life. Mind you, this CEO of a growing and exceptional Gold Coast Podcast studio, will be the first to say that 20 years of smoking 'pot' may well have been the foundation for such a narrow perspective of life. He intimates that his smoking habit simply sucked the excitement and energy out of him and left him floating from day to day with no purpose. At times, it was a contributor to deep depressive states. His descriptions of that state in this episode are graphic and will certainly give you the listener a glimpse of this crippling world of mental health. He is brave to share it with us. But to dwell on early catalysts for a drowning life is not the story. This is about the comeback ... a mighty comeback. It is about a man's search for insight and finally, it is about the courage to leave it all behind and act with new vision. That is the journey that now has Adam Bell practicing 10-12 daily actions and processes that contribute to his redemption. Just imagine if your daily routine even included half of the following. Who might you become? That is the question this episode asks. 1. Bed before 10pm ... Arise before 6 am 2. Cold Shower3. Morning Meditation for 20 minutes4. Grounding with the Earth5. Writes out 3 x affirmations for this day and keeps them in his pocket for the day.6. Read Goals aloud twice per day.7. No alcohol ... because that's what Adam's body deserves8. Intense Exercise 6 days a week 9. Listens to Mindset Podcast at every opportunity.10. Daily Gratitude statement so that he dilutes his need for more !You have to love a story which teaches hope, courage, insight and action. It's the comeback that will inspire you. For any of you who can relate to that feeling of just floating through life then this story is going to tease you with actionable possibilities. You will love it.

Ep 4949. To Chat with Chad (Foreman) is to Realise that John Lennon's 'Imagine' was a True Vision
Revisit Episode 36 with Chad Foreman and you will hear of a super-competitive, ambitious young man with a McEnroe temper who dreamed of being a Wimbledon Champion. To further his game, Chad was introduced to meditative practices that so intrigued him that he eventually changed paths to become a Buddhist Monk. It was that wise Chad, who delivered a single line in Episode 36, that was a paradigm shifter for so many of our listeners ... "love is the fragrance of emptiness". There was so much value in those 6 words, that getting Chad back for this riveting discussion was always going to happen. Of course, once again he has delivered so much more.In this episode, you will hear Chad explain why he is merely a student of The Way. If this is so, then you are listening to a very aware student ... a very wise one ... a student who sees things so much more simply and clearly then most. Listen to Chad explain 'Why Society is Sick'. Better still, listen to his answers and how you can play a role in re-creating communities built upon Lao Tzu's three greatest treasures ... Peace, Harmony and Compassion. Chad's call for 'Enlightened Companies', whose purpose is the betterment and happiness of society, not the accumulation of profits and riches ... it is so thought provoking. To honour John Lennon, he IMAGINES a school and education system whose main purpose is to inspire students to create new visions for the society into which they will enter. Most of all, Chad Foreman in this episode will awaken you to your beautiful possibilities with simple actions that you could incorporate into your lifestyle in this very moment.I was so impacted by this Chat with Chad that I have now taken upon myself to host a DAY with CHAD FOREMAN on Sunday Nov 12 here in Buderim, Southeast Qld. It's a full day from 0900 am to 1600 pm catering for 18 persons only, and you are welcome. However, it is first in - first serve. It's a day for us to celebrate the possibilities of life. The cost of $150 will not only supply you with MT and lunch but introduce you to 6 different meditative practices, which collectively will show you a path to your higher true self of Peace, Harmony, Love and Compassion. Gee, we would love to have you on board. To register your interest please contact or text Bernie Kelly on 0412982444.In the meantime, Chad suggests you read any of these three books. They are amongst his favorites. The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness by Yongey Mingyur RinpocheThe Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living by Russ HarrisThe Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment by Thaddeus GolasWhat a journey it has been with Chad Foreman over two episodes and what a contribution he has made to our journey of becoming that more loving, happier human being. Ep 4848. Episode 18's Bella Cameron Returns With a 12-Month Story of Courage, Love and Transformation
This is a remarkable love story. It is about a young woman discovering how to love herself fueled by ‘love in action’ from her partner Josh and a huge on-line community of followers and consequently renewing her love for life. However, it hasn't always been this way. Listen to Episode 18 and you will hear of the same Bella Cameron, who just 12 months ago was UNLEARNING from a society and success culture that led her down a pathway with which she could not cope. In fact, it nearly destroyed her. Despite almost being dux of her prominent Qld Private School, Bella ended up bulimic and suffering profound mental health issues. By mid-twenties her life was in disarray. And then she discovered the 16th century art of CROCHETING. Yes, you heard that rightly dear listeners! Bella found an ancient art that became both her meditation and her passion, which led to her restoration and her becoming the SUPREME WINNER of The 2023 Australian Wearable Art Festival. (Please Google it or www.australianwearableart.com.au) Experienced and expert entries from all around the world were not created by similar passionate hands driven by the enormous love and connection that Bella had for her Babushka … her Ukranian Grandmother. Love created her winning masterpiece. It was Love and Courage that allowed Bella to move so swiftly from a person of flux and confusion to one of clarity, purpose and international success. Bella’s last 12 months is a formula for personal transformation that everyone should understand. It involves the beautiful mix of Discovering your Purpose and then liberating the Courage to live it. It involves Resilient Focus that wouldn't give any energy to potential Distractions, a newfound confidence to 'Say NO' and the joy of Finding your People. Put it all together and you have a woman who found her modified existence in a society that once threatened her life.To understand the fullness of Bella’s incredible journey, first embrace Episode 18. Hear both episodes, one after the other, so you too can be in awe of her journey of love, happiness and meaning. Together, they show us a way to a beautiful and perhaps sustainable place in this game we call ‘Life’. Bernie K +61 412982444Bella Cameron +61 428958944

Ep 4747. Bernie K is On the Couch with Chris Andersen, Our Special Guest from Episode 20
One of the great surprises in A Journey With Bernie comes when a previous guest insists on reversing the roles and putting Bernie K 'on the couch'. Well thanks to Chris Anderson from Episode 20, that was exactly the opportunity that arose and inspired this extraordinary interview. It's unique! It's unique because this hour allows Bernie to bring the golden lessons of all past episodes to one high impact discussion and wow doesn't he do it superbly. This is an education that just jabs away with great regularity delivering valued lesson after lesson. There were so many teachings, it prompted our editor and producer Lachlan 'Chip' Huddy, to inject another new segment. We call it Chip's LOADED QUESTIONS. From now on, each episode will feature two interventions from Chip, who will tease you with THOUGHT-PROVOKING QUESTIONS arising from the engaging content that will inspire you. It's all about helping you, the listener, to recognize what actions and strategies you need to implement in order to become that more loving happier human being. Chip's LOADED QUESTIONS makes its debut in this episode. Let us know what you think! So, get ready to be teased and prodded by an exploration of ... What holds you back from fulfilling your purpose? What fears emanating from your past experiences, stop you from doing what you are meant to do?Have you built the right environment around you to allow you to bring the best possible you to each and every day?How to ensure that your communications are being driven by authentic 'heart speak' not the illusions of 'monkey mind'.Why the quality we need to use more is the powerful gift of perspective, which we all own.We also discuss ... Why we need more women leading the workforce? And why men must be unafraid to display and utilise their connecting feminine energies! This is not a 'soft call' guys! This is about becoming the more fulfilled man. Learn how in this episode. Seriously, these topics are just the beginning drawing from Chad Foreman's Episode 36 and compulsory readings such as The Book of Joy by Douglas Abrams with Desmund Tutu and the Dalai Llama, and another we have highly recommended previously ... The Courage to Be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga. Yet another reference in this podcast alludes to the must see YouTube remake of 'We are the World' by Bernie's youth clients and the residents of Kibera, the big slum of Nairobi: We Are The World, MOH and Gi Originally by Michael Jackson, USA for Africa - YouTube. It's all part of this exceptional episode which is worth multiple listens, such is its educational value. Ep 4545. Andrew de Angelis - The Happiest Bouncer in the World!
When Andrew de Angelis asks you to leave his establishment because you're an 'intoxicated nuisance', he buys you a bottle of water and escorts you all the way down the 5 floor elevator, chatting to you about how good it will be to see you back next week!! He's the only Bouncer I know, who gets a cheeky kiss from the girls when they are leaving. Even the ones he has asked to leave thank him for the evening! Andrew de Angelis is the happiest 'Bouncer' in the World.I remind you, that this is in an industry, where most security guards think they have to strut their power, remain distant from the customer and chuck you out at first sign of the slightest misbehave. The approach of Andrew de Angelis couldn't be more opposite. He connects with people. During your beautiful evening with friends at THE EMPORIUM ROOFTOP BAR overlooking the city lights and the Brisbane River, Andrew will even come around, pick up your empty dinner plates, share his latest joke or two that is certain to leave you laughing heartily not so much at the quality of his joke, but more at the broadness of his lively British accent. People just love him. Yet, this happy persona was once a highly regarded British Soldier who served in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and the Iraq War. He knows how power can be so seriously misused. He has seen massive egos create unnecessary conflict. He also knows what it feels like to protect his brothers and sisters in arms. They were his family, until a gang attack in England many years ago took away 70% of his hearing and all of his sense of smell. His professional career in the British Army which he loved so much, was taken from him overnight inspiring bouts of depression, alcoholism and anger. The journey that followed has been a long one but has taken Andrew to a rare place in which he 'sees the good' and 'speaks the good' of everyone he greets at THE EMPORIUM ROOFTOP BAR, South Brisbane every weekend. This is a funny beautiful episode about a soldier overcoming adversity and just 'sucking it up' to become a happy man who walks with joy and spreads goodwill wherever he goes ... And so typical of Andrew is his want to thank the following special people in his life, who have helped him become 'the Happiest Bouncer in the World' ... Ian Holliman ... a childhood colleague who gave Andrew work when just released from hospital.Army mates Wilkie and Paula, and then there was Coxie, who was always there for Andrew when needed.Salute to Trev, who lost a leg in Bosnia. Ep 4444. Thomas Nyawir - Africa's Biggest Slum Was His Home. Now it is His CALLING!
Kibera is now Africa's biggest slum with over 1,000,000 residents who earn less than US$2 per day. A family of 7, might live in 9-12 sq metres floorspace that is encased by corrugated iron walls and a leaking roof. Such families, all know Thomas Nyawir. If they knew of Mother Teresa, then surely, they would see Thomas as her brother. He, with his wife Judy, are the Founders of The Mirror of Hope, an outstanding charitable organization that sponsors Kiberian children through quality Primary, Secondary and Tertiary education. At time of writing, nearly 130 children are active beneficiaries. In addition, the Mirror of Hope's SILC PROJECT supports women living in Kibera, most of whom as the primary or sole breadwinners are also HIV diagnosed. Through Thomas inspired projects, these women are equipped with micro finances and business skills to create a visionary exit for a new beginning. When Thomas walks through the slum, the community rises. He has a Nelson Mandela status amongst his people, and they are his people for Thomas himself was once part of the community. He, however, was a fortunate one, whose innate talents were recognised by a wealthy visitor who sponsored Thomas out of the slum and into a new existence. For Thomas, this is a Pay-it Forward vocation. For the residents he is their way forward. A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE has been blessed with Thomas and Judy's friendship for 12 years now, perhaps longer. Annually, Thomas welcomed 40 to 90 Australian school children to East Africa and gave them an education about the Kiberian world that only few of them realised existed. Some of the experiences had by our Aussie students is now legendary. The visit to the resident's homes was enough to ignite the quality of gratefulness permanently, while the teaming with their Kiberian peers to form a choir and then three days later lay down their own version of WE ARE THE WORLD has become a life memory. (Watch this!)Rarely, has A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE been so privileged to welcome a man whose career and life has been so defined by love in action. It is not possible to put into words what you will learn from this episode, except to say that it comes from a source that very few people on this planet will ever know.Thomas Nyawir +254 722 813 063 www.facebook.com/mirrorofhopecbo/ Bernie Kelly +61 412 982 444 [email protected]

Ep 4343. A Chapter With Chip - Love, Happiness and Life through the Eyes of Chip Huddy
He is one of a kind. He is our editor, our producer and now he is the custodian of learning... Our INSIGHT INTERPRETER. From now on, Chip Huddy will host a new segment at the end of each episode of A Journey With Bernie. It's called CHIP'S TAKE HOME PAY and it will be his 4-minute summary of key learnings that will add even more value to your listening and learning experience. As CHIP so beautifully suggests, he will 'springboard you towards seeing key strategies and actions that can move you forward towards becoming that more loving human being'. CHIP is perfect for this new role. He himself is a critical thinker. He wants to teach you on how to become one as well. Chip is super intelligent and I frequently bow to his unique turn of phrase and his width of vocabulary. Even in this episode, you will hear his colour with phrases like ... 'grief is love persisting' ... It will 'rip your apathy' ... or 'quietening that voice of unworthiness'. So that you can get to know our wonderfully fun, full of life, co-host this CHAPTER WITH CHIP is about his personal learnings from our most recent episodes. He highlights stories of guests that impacted him greatly. He explains why. More importantly, he shares how lessons from the podcast have taught him on how to be a better man, a better partner and a greater embracer of life. Chip Huddy is joy personified. You will enjoy this episode immensely and at the end of it you may even want contact details on Chip's private Irish counsellor! Ep 4242. Janette Salmi - Bringing Dignity to the Elderly and the Disabled and Ensuring Their Wisdom is Heard
Janette Salmi is a gem. She is a beautiful jewel: a woman of class and high-level integrity. She is driven by her clear values which inspire her belief in the wholesome capacity of the human spirit. Throughout all of her SEASONS - her season as a mother of four, her season as a senior secondary school administrator, her season as an aged care nurse, she has always offered faith and belief in the dignity and respect for the individual. At times, people thought that her preference to honour 'goodness in others' was naive, maybe even an invitation to treat her as a 'soft touch' and ride profitably on her enthusiasm. It is true, she has been taken for granted, but never once has her innate kindness, her faith in humanity, and her preference to live a life rich in love ... never once has it waivered. This is the Janette Salmi way. SEASONS are what Janette calls the CHAPTERS of her life, and it is 'the good and the flawed' experiences from her SEASONS, that have strengthened her way and led her to a powerful and beautiful existence. As the last third (60-90, according to Jane Fonda) of her life approached, Janette Salmi chose to dedicate herself to housing and caring for her aged Uncle Jeff and Aunty Meg. She loved them too much to see them separated in a Sydney nursing home. Supported by her husband, she renovated the 'granny flat' and became the custodian of dignity, ensuring that Uncle and Aunty lived out their elder years rich in love, wisdom and celebration. Some saw that Janette's choice was simply putting her own life on hold. Janette's response was to smile and welcome the continuous treasure load of experiences that kept adding enormous value to the lives of all, who encountered this profound loving environment for her extended family.Uncle Jeff and Aunty Meg have recently passed away with the grace and dignity they deserved. Both of them living beyond their medically predicted timeframes. Janette now finally, has the time to retire, take breath, slow down and enjoy quieter times, BUT ... this is not the Janette way! Why would anyone stop offering the wisdom of their years, when they reach that beautiful stage of life when they finally KNOW ... when finally, they can SEE. When finally, they have that feeling of ARRIVING ... that feeling of VALUE. These are the sentiments of Janette Salmi and this is why Janette in her early 70's has started an extraordinary business called DIGNIFIED MOVEMENT ... www.dignifiedmovement.com.au ... which is dedicated to inspiring new levels of Dignified Disability Care, Dignified Home Care for the Elderly, Dignified Enhancement of Senior Life. Janette, who feels at the peak of her powers is now taking advantage of the journey of her years to build her legacy. She is extraordinary. My dear people, this story is inspiring. It is powerful. It changes the way we see the last term of life. It blows extra breath into how we see, interact, relate and respect our elder citizens and disabled brothers and sisters. At the heart of it all is one woman's desire to live fully fuelled by her enormous capacity to love deeply. This episode is gold and Janette Salmi is the glorious treasure. Ep 4141. Mitch Mills - Australian Teacher of the Year Nominee Preparing Children for Life
For 30 years, I have asked teachers around the world the same question ... "Does Education prepare our children for Life?" My instinct says that 90% have shaken their heads with disappointment, claiming that red tape, curriculum pressures and confused vision from government defined leadership, have distracted teachers from the very heart of what they believe is the ultimate purpose of education. They agree with the voice of Chad Foreman who in Episode 36 suggested that education prepares students for an economy, not for a life of love and happiness. In this extraordinary exploration of educational possibilities, Australian Teacher of the Year Nominee, Mitch Mills, with the full support of his school's administration opposes the trend. His increasingly popular 'Changing Lanes' program fosters potent, solid friendships across the entire cohort that last well beyond their school years. He leads processes and experiences that create comfort around openness, vulnerability, authenticity and strong connectedness. Mitch helps his students to feel the power of 'REAL' and in so doing creates bonds that support each other for decades.'Changing Lanes' challenges teachers too. Teachers are called to be appropriately vulnerable and REAL as are the students. They must model the behavior. Parents have to be in on the act as well. They too need skills of openness, authentic and loving speech, comfort in providing 'tough love' with teenagers who can innately be silent and closed. Mitch's programme inspires strong supportive communities and in doing so he is offering the student an experience far more meaningful than Calculus and the Periodic Table. He is not blind to the need for curriculum, but he wishes to offer education a new vision, which balances subject-driven learnings with skills and perspectives that bring students happiness and meaning for life. Mitch Mills is a much-needed revolution, coaching our children to find love for self, the beauty of people and the joy of life.Bernie Kelly +61 412982444Mitch Mills +61 438880202

Ep 4040. Mayda Reyes From Mexico - the Tantra Healer Feeling the Wounds of Men
When Florian and Vicky, the adventurers from Austria, who sailed the world during Covid (Episode 38), suggested I meet Mayda Reyes, a Tantra Healer from Mexico, I must admit to two things. INTRIGUE and a TREPIDATION as to what I was opening myself up too! Here at the launch of this extraordinary episode, I now realise how little I know about ancient philosophies, how easy it is to be framed by religious constructs that hinder us from being fully human, and how beautiful it is to meet a woman with compassion and understanding for the journey of MEN. Mayda Reyes comes from the 'Lineage of the Kings' from her beloved Mexico. She is a Tantra Healer. She explains that Tantra is a philosophy that precedes Hinduism and Buddhism. It is a human roadmap on how one can maximise their human experience and touch the source of creation. We can do both. She explains how the Western World has only tapped into that part of Tantra that major religions deemed both 'sacred and taboo'. Consequently, she speaks about the depths of sexuality and intimacy like one would speak about eating or any other human function. Her freedom around sexual expression is liberating. You will hear it in this episode. She has the same reason as many other women to be hurt and revengeful about the selfish actions of sex-driven men, but instead she compassionately seeks to understand them. She helps them to see their sacredness and to be their higher self. Through her, men can weep like waterfalls. Such is their feeling of liberation.I am very proud to bring you this episode with Mayda Reyes. It is different...very different. It approaches the subject of love, happiness and meaning from yet another dimension of life. Please listen with an open mind. Make sure the word 'Tantra' does not block you or tarnish your perception of what this episode is about, for if it does, you will miss out on 'gold and treasure' as rich as the Aztec and Inca Cultures which have massaged the spirit of this beautiful woman.Bernie K - +61 412982444Mayda Reyes - +52 4434712756 - Feel free to contact Mayda if you felt that she might be a suitable coach for your needs.

Ep 3939. Sailing the World through Covid, They Discovered Much More Than the Pacific Ocean
Florian calls it a 'Chance Encounter'. A Journey With Bernie calls it 'finding the perfect wind'. It was such good fortune when I turned to the guy standing beside me and simply asked 'how his day was unfolding'. When he stated that he was in Brisbane for boat repairs, curiosity revealed that Florian Grassl and Vicky Weichsler, a husband-and-wife team from Austria had been sailing the oceans from the moment Covid became a pandemic.Immediately, questions arose ... What is the effect on one when it's just you, a boat, a sail and nothing but ocean?Does it calm you? Is it meditative? What is the effect on two people's relationship when couped in limited space for weeks on end?Does it make you talk about 'stuff' that you'd normally avoid?Does it inspire greater listening, empathy and understanding? What do you see when it's just you, an ocean horizon and an exquisite sunset?Do you feel 'God'?What happens to your spirit when you remove yourself from the pace of society and its 'success' culture? How did the powerful force of marine nature impact you?Question after question arose, and while we may not have answered all of those questions in this one-hour adventure story, there are so many gems inspired by this incredible tale, that profound awareness is assured. The learning on offer from Florian Grassl and Vicki Weichsler need not stop with this podcast, as their blog continues to offer ongoing blessings for all who follow their story.Perhaps as a final thought, listeners should take note of the joy and opportunity that is all around you. Next time you are lining up for an evening beverage, just say 'hello' to the person beside you. You may finish up learning a truckload ... or a boatful! Enjoy the journey and forgive Bernie's singing at start and finish of the podcast with sincere apologies to Rod Stewart.Bernie K +61 412982444

Ep 3838. What A Journey With Bernie Has Taught Bernie About Joy, Love, and Meaning
When a guest on A Journey With Bernie wants to return the favour by asking Bernie Kelly, his host and facilitator, to participate in his podcast, then the result is Bernie under the microscope on what he has learnt from the game of life. Coincidentally, it was such an appropriate request, as it coincided with the one-year anniversary of A Journey With Bernie which was launched on April 27, 2022. The remarkable Prof Kenneth Pakenham was our first guest and he really did offer us great insights into what brings meaning into our lives. He got this party going! I am forever grateful. In truth, so many of my deeper insights have come from the lessons gleaned from all 36 podcast guests so far. They have opened up my eyes to the power of love as a life purpose. Do not interpret this as a 'motherhood' or soft statement. For me, it is clear now: 'Love is all there is. The rest is window dressing'. Of course, it is so easy to say this. Ep 3737. A Chapter with Chip - Why 26 Guests Suggest we UNLEARN!
It's been 26 Episodes since A JOURNEY with BERNIE seeked and searched for overlapping themes and suggestions from our wide range of guests, who emanate from such different backgrounds and life stories. Yet, despite their obvious differences, they offer messages that regularly surface and call for our consideration, if we want to move towards becoming a more loving human being. We call these summarizing episodes, A CHAPTER WITH CHIP, in honor of the extraordinary volunteer work done for this podcast by Lachlan Huddy otherwise known as CHIP. He is our Steven Spielberg, our editor and producer. He is the reason you can enjoy a punchier and more complete professional download each and every week. The entertaining CHIP will join me in the studio on these summarizing occasions to make sure we capture the highlights which will reinforce the strongest suggestions offered to you by our wonderful guests. In this episode we identify, WHAT ARE THE COMMON THEMES that help us to love more broadly and generate greater inner happiness, before we focus on the subject of UNLEARNING first introduced to A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE by the beautiful Bella Cameron in Episode 18.Are we buying into a conditioning pathway that Morrie Schwarz (from Tuesdays With Morrie) suggested is merely Society's Culture. Yuval Noah Harari in his incredible book SAPIENS states that society's paradigm for success is really nothing more than a product of the evolutionary mind and is no formula for sustainable happiness. Many of our previous guests hint that we must UNLEARN. Listen to their comments. We must modify our commitment to the traditional societal way of living life. There is another way and it starts with recognising the need to UNLEARN.This episode is potent. Enjoy!Bernie Kelly +61 412982444Lachlan 'Chip' Huddy +61 410603336

Ep 3636. Chad Foreman ... He wanted to be Wimbledon Champ and instead Chad became a Tibetan Monk.
I am an advocate of master life coach, Sadhguru. When this spiritually aware teacher from India talks of our possibilities, he demonstrates a unique skill to simplify the complex into language and images that can be absorbed by all. Chad Foreman is the only other person I know with that same brilliant skill!Chad's personal journey is a story of a young hungry competitive sportsperson, who played top class tennis driven to becoming one of the best. The torturous mind game of Tennis, demanded he search for mental strategies techniques that would focus the mind, control the emotions and consequently enhance his game. He found meditation so useful, that it attracted him to discover a new way of life. He became a Buddhist Monk instead. For 6 years, Chad lived in an isolated retreat hut in a Tibetan Buddhist community. Today, Chad is the principal of The Way of Meditation, a beautiful service that helps people see their lives more clearly and move them towards a state of greater calm, peace and love. Chad does this superbly. Chad is aware. He is awakened. In this podcast, you will hear of so many concepts, most of which will have never occurred to you. He will say things which make perfect sense and you will wonder why, you had never seen this before. That is Chad's gift. Please enjoy this taste of rare awareness, unique insights and an ability to see things so clearly.Bernie Kelly+61412982444Chad Foreman +61404136077Chenrezig Institute - A Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Centre +61 7 54532108Recommended Reading: Timothy Galway's The Inner Game of Tennis

Ep 3535. How Ines Hemmings, the Architect from Austria chose blessed pathway to become 'Ines Happiness'.
Up until her late 20's, Ines Hemmings could have been the girl next door. Her life was the conventional script of the playful child, studious secondary schooler, good marks, opening up pathway to University degree to become the money earning professional, blessed with the love of her life. All the success signs were there, except for the little voice inside that kept on suggesting there had to be more! As with most great transformations (and believe me dear readers this is a great transformation), a tumultuous chaotic event becomes the trigger for change and a new pathway. Quite simply, the events of her 27th birthday will now be celebrated as the day she began her liberation and her thirst for wisdom. Now in her early 30's, the girl from Austria lives a humble, slower, peaceful life blessed with an inner calm and a loving environment of which others would envy. Just listen to the 3 opening excerpts and you will realize that this young lady's being has been touched with profound learnings. She simply SEES more now and consequently she can BE more ... so so enjoyable is this 35th episode of A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE.Bernie K +61 412982444Ines Hemmings +61 481775373

Ep 3434. JJ - One of the GREAT Stories of Forgiveness and Transformation
This is one of the most incredible stories you are likely to hear. It is a story of a boy who had a taste of a 'living hell'. As a result, JJ joined the army so he could 'kill people'. He found alcohol and painkillers to be his daily companion. He attempted suicide but 'an angel' in the form of his son kept intervening. Then nearly 5 years ago, he found THE PROGRAMME. Instantly and without plausible explanation his alcoholic problem was over. JJ has not drunk since. THE PROGRAMME helped him to forget his problems, by introducing him to a life of service. Vipassana meditation now plays a role in helping JJ forget the past with a purified mind. Now he truly LOVES and there is evidence. This is a remarkable story but be aware you are going to hear of 'ugliness'. You mind will conjure pictures of war atrocities that will make you squirm and cringe. Stick with it, because in the second half, you will be stunned by how JJ's life has blossomed to inspire a man with an extraordinary level of self-honesty, a comfort to communicate it and a love for life, people and family for which most could only wish.Bernie K +61412982444JJ + 61417719428

Ep 3333. Mathew Barber - The Engineer Who Is Engineering Himself Into Enlightenment
How do you describe Mathew Barber? The words that come to mind are COURAGEOUS, EXPLORATIVE, beautifully SPIRITUAL and blissfully CONTENT.How much COURAGE would it take for any individual to turn their back on a 6-figure sum, the penthouse overlooking Bondi, a wide circle of friends and a girlfriend that turned heads everywhere she walked, in the pursuit of one's greater inner happiness. In Mathew's own words, the lifestyle he was living, courtesy of an expanding engineering career, simply wasn't making him happy. He had a simple answer: Let's try meditation. His first mantra-reciting meditative encounter revealed to him the possibilities of a whole new existence. He needed to discover more. It took him to Spain where he EXPLORED his first 10-day silent Vipassana retreat. He has now done many. As this episode goes to the Global Public for the first time, Mathew is sitting his first 20-day silent Vipassana retreat. He went to India on a three-month mission to EXPLORE his SPIRITUAL journey and thanks to Covid, finished up spending two and a half years predominantly in the mountainous regions of the North. Amidst his journeys, he embraces the gifts of plant-based psychedelics, which Mathew acknowledges certainly played a role in AWAKENING him to a wider level of consciousness. He also knows the dangers of that experiment and shares them openly in this podcast. I am not sure I have met a more CONTENT person. His bank account does not have many digits in it. His van looks broken and battered, and I am not quite sure what he would say if you asked him 'Where is home', yet CONTENTMENT, PEACE, HAPPINESS, CALM, LOVE, define Mathew's Spirit. This is his remarkable journey. Let me warn you now, this episode is different. It is not like any that have preceded it. Yet, I suspect there are few episodes that have the capacity for thought provoking reflection as this one. Embrace it ... don't judge it ... consider it ... don't dismiss it, for it is rare that you will hear from such an awakened spirit.Bernie K +61412982444Mathew Barber +61402240344

Ep 3232. Do I LIVE? Do I LOVE? To Dhom Do I MATTER? It's the Jeff McKeon Way!
When A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE finishes every recording, we re-listen and decide what of the podcast will be the three key excerpts that will welcome you the listener to this episode. There was only one problem with this episode, we had chosen 15 excerpts from which we had to narrow it down to three. It took us an hour to decide! My dear people, this podcast is loaded with gems. That's because, when you live a life highlighted by an alcoholic Father, a suicide letter at 15 years of age that thankfully didn't come off, and a heart attack while training for a 1600 klm bike ride, there are too many powerful life lessons on offer that cannot be ignored. Jeff McKeon heeded them so much, he left a 25 year career in sales and a six figure income to do what he was meant to do ... fulfil his purpose as a paid writer, author in progress, and life coach to the many. Listen to a story of battling on through adversity and the courage to turn it all around by truly doing only what is a true extension of self. The Jeff McKeon story could well be entitled 'How to find a Pathway to Happiness from the Quicksand'. Be prepared to be inspired!Bernie K+61 412982444

Ep 3131. Rebecca Williams - From an Entrepreneural Summit to Love on the Farm
Rebecca Williams rode dolphins at Seaworld before she was 8. In fact, she lived inside the iconic Gold Coast Family Attraction for much of her memorable childhood, because her Father, Keith Williams, built it. Keith needs no introduction. He was an entrepreneurial legend, a visionary and a pioneer who gave the world access to the incredible Whitsundays off the Queensland Coast with his amazing development of the tropical Hamilton Island. Naturally enough, these prosperous times assured Bec of a lifestyle that came with all the trimmings for 40 years of her life. What happened next was extraordinary. Cyclone Yasi battered the Whitsundays and Keith's Hinchinbrook Project met strong environmental distaste. Signs of dementia coupled with an ageing entrepreneurial ego started to tarnish his decision making. Amidst these changing fortunes, Keith passed away from a series of strokes leaving the family with little. Access to the extravagant lifestyle that had become norm for Bec was no more. Bec was declared bankrupt.Little did she realise, that a different brand of Life, Love and Happiness was about to unfold. It was a chance call from schoolboy sweetheart and country music star, James Blundell that soon inspired a proposal of marriage. Blundell declared 'he’d always loved Rebecca Williams since he was 16'. She never knew that in fact it was she who had inspired an original James Blundell hit, ‘Down On The Farm', in which she is referred. Now Rebecca is that farm girl ... a house renovator ... the guardian of two Jack Russells and lover of sheep and cattle, which she treasures dearly. In her own words, Rebecca Williams couldn't be happier. This is a remarkable story. In fact, it is an extraordinary one, if only for the fact that we meet a rare individual who has drunk merrily from both sides of the bar. She has lived the high life, the society definition of success and now she lives a humble existence which she describes as one that has brought her two treasured ingredients. To discover what they are, you must listen to a rare episode for which I make no excuses for just going over the hour. Simply, it is that good.Bernie +61 412982444

Ep 3030. Magnus Olson - How a 5-Year-Old Swedish Boy with No English becomes a Full-of-Life, Passionate, Successful Entrepreneur and Walking Enthusiasm!
This is the story of a 5 year old boy from a Swedish Village who immigrates to Australia with his parents and immediately starts 18 months of Grade One because he has No English. Today, Magnus Olson is more than a mighty successful entrepreneur. He is a mighty successful lover of life, human being. The man is walking enthusiasm.Even in the week of this podcast, Magnus displayed what differentiates him from most. He attracted a National Television Station to do a documentary special on his latest mountain resort style development. The next day, he attended to his other business ... M26 which fosters healthy bodies and healthy minds. He is passionate about exercise and healthy eating. He finds time to visit his aging mum, to kayak the Brisbane River and to play ice hockey with his mates. He fits in this podcast and right now he is on a jet plane back to Sweden with his beloved wife to visit relatives and family. You will get this feeling that his last 7 days reflects his normal pace. That's the way he lives it. That's the way he attacks the game of life.Yet it hasn't been easy. It never is, but when he looks in the mirror, he sees the only thing that can hold him back. The mirror never wins. He just makes things happen. He has some great suggestions to creating this full of life existence. You will learn, about his three C's ... Commitment, Consistency and Connection. The last one he so advocates. To Magnus, connection with people is fundamental. One little gem from this episode is his belief that his NETWORK determines his NET WORTH. You will so enjoy this humble story of a little Swedish Boy who creates life in Australia ... extraordinary life. Listen and take notes. Magnus Olson makes it sound so easy.

Ep 2929. SHAUN HART - Together with His God, They Won the Norm Smith Medal for Best Player at the 2001 AFL Grand Final
Shaun Hart was once dubbed the most selfless player in the AFL and anyone privileged to have known Shaun or see him play would agree. He is one of the all-time greats of the Brisbane Lions AFL Football Club and will forever be remembered as a three times Premiership Player and the winner of the Norm Smith Medal – the ‘best player on the ground’ in the club’s first premiership success of 2001. Teammate and Brisbane Lions Champion, Alistair Lynch once said of Shaun, “We simply looked up to Harty, because of the way he conducted himself in life. His religious beliefs were his foundation, for they fueled him to be totally honest and trustworthy. You always knew that he would always do the team things and that gave you an enormous amount of confidence.”When Shaun suffered a horrific facial injury that ruled him out of his 4th consecutive Grand Final in 2004, iconic coach and legend, Leigh Matthews said, “We love Shaun Hart. I know it's a funny word and I know we don't use it, but he is the most magnificent human being. He is so much the heart and soul of this team”.For onlookers, Shaun's mix of devout Christianity and his rugged, focused, courageous running on the football field became a source of curiosity and intrigue. Even more so, when with millions of viewers worldwide Shaun accepted the 2001 Norm Smith Medal by first thanking “my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.” (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceZLkSolQFY)It was a degree of openness and transparency that drew enormous respect. This episode is fascinating for so many reasons, but one thing becomes undeniable. For those who BELIEVE in an ALL-LOVING GOD, their FAITH can enhance their capacity to love, rescue them in times of need and give one an empowering clear life purpose. This episode is a tutorial about the importance of being true to self. It is a lesson in the power of servant leadership, but most of all, it is a story about one man’s discovery of a pathway that guarantees for him a life of love, joy and meaning. That’s why asking Shaun Hart to be a guest on A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE was a no-brainer. Enjoy this episode for you are about to meet a beautiful human being and a rare soul.Oh! … and don’t forget to ‘google’ THE RESILIENCE PROJECT. It is the second time this popular program about mental health strategies has become a strong recommendation of our guest.

Ep 2828. Keith Staite Lost His Son 6 Weeks Ago - His GRIEF is LOVE Turned Inside Out and Upside Down
Six months ago, I attended a fundraising breakfast. The guest speaker was Joel Staite, a 37 year old cyclist, triathlete, lover of life, beautifully aware man, who had a rare 'supposedly' incurable cancer that invades only 50 to 60 people globally per year. I say 'supposedly' because in years to come, prevention and cure will become available. It is the way of our world.I introduced myself to Joel and told him of the loving objectives of A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE. Somehow through that humble first connection, Joel agreed to become Episode 8. It became a MUST listen, because Joel's scenario was both unique to us and yet it was common. He reminded us that every day, we forget that we are dying as well as living. It is because we forget we are dying, we do not become aware of TRULY LIVING. He was far more aware, because death for him was imminent. His awareness led him to actions and strategies that created 5 more years of LIFE. How powerful! However, the disease was always present within him and when it finally had a chance to act without medicine getting in the way, it did so quickly. Joel's body died 6 weeks ago. I learnt of his passing while I was in Nepal with 15 friends and business associates ascending the Himalaya's highest trekkable peak, Mount Mera. The news rocked me, because I didn't want his message and legacy to be lost. Almost immediately, I made a private decision to play a role in keeping it alive. Episode 25 became a tribute podcast to what Joel taught us. His work boss, manager and friend, Damian Vescovi helped us to absorb and comprehend Joel's gift of acute awareness. There was risk in this podcast. The risk was that my ego, my want to educate and create value for you, the listener, would not be empathetic enough to respect the grieving state of Joel's family and loved ones. Would this tribute episode meet with their favour? Would it represent and reflect Joel accurately?I backed my own loving spirit and instinct. Then came this text message from a man I had not met...Hi Bernie, my name is Keith Staite (father of Joel). I finally found the courage to listen to your tribute podcast last night and just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words you expressed about him. He truly is the real deal and I only hope many more people try to live his legacy of loving kindness. The world will be a better place if so. Thanks again, Keith StaiteI was floored. Somehow the spirit of love, awareness, life and empathy ... the spirit of Joel ... was now flowing between 'supposed' strangers. In truth, Keith's text seeded me with the idea of podcasting him, but it just didn't feel right to ask ... until now. What you are about to hear is so unique, on so many different dimensions that I can scarcely believe the privilege. Think for a moment, how did this set of circumstances even arise? Why did it arrive at a time where I was launching a podcast about the fabric of love? The connectedness of it all blows my mind.Consider what you are about to hear? ... You will hear the raw heartbeat of a man who only weeks ago lost his boy.You and I are honored to hear from Keith Staite who shares grief, love and meaning through his experience of life and death so inexplicably intertwined at this time.I don't know what to say any more, except you would be sadly missing an opportunity if you did not listen to this episode with Keith Staite. I also feel that not to share it with relevant others in your life, might be their opportunity lost.Thank you Keith ... such courage is rare. Such vulnerability is extraordinary. Such depth and profound wisdom is the gift of Joel and now you. We are honoured.Bernie +61412982444

Ep 2727. Keith Clark - When to Question a Million Dollar Contract!
How is it that I can visit Tokyo and visit Starbuck's for an early morning 'Latte on Oat Milk' and finish up 48 hours later podcasting the guy that sits behind me! Well, that's the incredible experience I had with Keith Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Jury Analyst, and wait until you hear exactly what that entails. His clients are potentially the 'Who's Who' of Hollywood and America's legal fraternity. These are clients, who often find themselves surrounded by court room sagas with millions at stake. For the attorney, having a jury who they know are receptive to the details of the case is essential. This is where Keith's business plays a vital role. Jury Analyst is able to provide a profile of the type of juror most likely to absorb and understand the way the attorney frames the case. Sometimes Keith's profile data can decide whether Person A gets the nod for Jury Duty or whether the case would be better served by Person D. The implications could be the difference between winning the 8 figure settlement or paying the costs!!Of course, my interest was to discover whether Keith's data and profiling tools could perhaps also recognise the characteristics of an ecstatic person filled with the joy of life and love for people. The discussion that unfolded was at times riveting. Couple this exploration with Keith's profound personal journey and we have an episode that is full of riches. Wait until you hear about how these profiling tools have been used to shape political elections! Naturally enough, such discussions also inspired open dialogue around the need for greater ethical standards and values-driven behaviours, not just in legal and political arenas, but in all industry. Our shared truth was distorted, when we referred to the Hollywood Classic 12 ANGRY MEN starring Henry Ford or Gregory Peck. Apologies to Henry Fonda for our glaring error, but Keith and I certainly got it right when recommending you read 'Think and Grow Rich' by Naploean Hill or Karma Book by Sadhguru: A Yogi’s Guide to Crafting Your Destiny. The latter is by far the most enlightening book I have read in 2022. Of course, you must have a listen to Keith's Podcast called Get in the Game Podcast from Jury Analyst on Stitcher. It is a wonderful insight into the Journey for Justice.

Ep 2626. Ben Oborne - Prick the Ego, Study Japan: How to Embrace ALL People!
There is one sentence in Ben's resume that reads, "Skilled in Business Planning, Operations Management and Leadership with an extensive history in the Quick Service Restaurant industry".I have known this Chief Operating Officer of Domino's Pizza Japan for 10 years and a sentence like the above only describes what he has done. It doesn't tell you of the unique perspectives and paradigms that define Ben Oborne. These are attitudes and views, which ultimately have accelerated this 34 year old up the ladder of leadership. It's simple, Ben's way of seeing people and the world around him attracts people's interest and their curiosity, just as it has done mine for a decade. Why does Ben Oborne connect with most? Why do most people never feel threatened by him?Why is Ben Oborne so naturally likeable? How come wherever he has ventured, staff like and respond to him? What differentiates him from so many of his peers? He promotes TRUST. He sells BELIEF. He fosters CONNECTION. He lives by the creed that "Teams succeed, but only leaders fail". Now that's ACCOUNTABILITY.Of course, you won't be surprised that his primary ingredients are EMPATHY and CURIOSITY. His desire to explore and learn is simply at another level. Which is why you will come to understand Ben's fascination with all that is beautifully hospitable with the spirit that surrounds him ... the CULTURE of JAPAN.If you have enjoyed the wide variety of different backgrounds that have defined the first 25 episodes of A Journey With Bernie, then you will love the backdrop of this episode about an outstanding corporate leader, whose life journey took him from Jindera to Japan. (I will let you look up Jindera. See if you can find it!) It's the story of a young man who learnt life through games of hockey and as lead singer of a Rock Band, which fueled his love of people and thirst to understand. This episode will remind you that life is a playground of rich opportunities and experiences. Grab the opportunity even more by reading Ben's recommendation Start With Why by Simon Sinek, and by chance if you want to sound like Ben, then look up words like 'nefarious and despot'. I had never heard of them until this episode! This hour is so easy to enjoy with an unassuming, humble, egoless explorer of life, whose attributes make him a mighty, effective Corporate Leader. Ep 2525. Cancer Took His Body, but His Spirit Speaks Louder Now - A Tribute to Joel Staite (Episode 8)
Collecting Duct Carcinoma invaded Joel's body some 6 years ago. This rare kidney cancer affecting only 50-60 people globally finally won the battle. Joel Staite passed away on October 8. When first diagnosed, Joel's life span was confined to that year, but what was to become a pattern, Joel found a way. He found a way to live. He found a pathway that enabled him to maximise life for another 5 years and understanding that journey is one of his outstanding legacies. There was no victim here. No 'poor me'. In fact, it was he who said, "I am almost thankful to cancer for showing me how to live". Who says that? Only a soul that has discovered greater riches sees that possibility. Joel Staite was such a soul. When anyone asks me what A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE is about, I simply reply 'Listen to EPISODE 8' ... https://open.spotify.com/episode/0JfiWEs8wTajRfQxwwYSxn?si=08bd0ea825db4958It was always 'MY GO TO' Episode. It was the episode that announced a pathway showing ALL of us how to become a more loving human being, how to inspire greater inner happiness from within, and how to add greater meaning to our humble lives. Joel Staite discovered that pathway and he shared it with us by the way he lived. However, his greatest gift is to remind us that 'we need not wait for death to tap us on the shoulderto choose a richer, fuller life now'. If Joel was speaking to you in this moment, he would simply say, 'Recognise NOW that your life is always impermanent and that there is no guarantee you will wake up breathing tomorrow. Therefore, DON'T WAIT!! The fullness of life is available right now'. In Episode 8 and in this tribute, Joel even explains how to travel that pathway. He speaks of mediation, veganism, learning and adventure components that collectively create an environment in which most will flourish. I am so pleased that you have chosen to listen to this episode, because I believe that through it, you will hear a multitude of questions about your own existence. These are appropriate questions from a young man whose circumstances helped him to discover greater life ... and then he lived it and thankfully for us, he shared it. For that, we are so grateful.A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE extends our love and blessings to Joel’s wife, Kieren, and his parents Cathy and Keith, and his brothers Kyle and Jaye and to all those who embraced the life and values of this wonderful human being. We were blessed.

Ep 2424. Dr Manoj and Dr Thorang - Saved Nepalese Lives during COVID with care, respect and shared oxygen!
When one of our Australian trekkers to Everest Base Camp woke up with symptoms of Pulmonary Oedema on Day 6, then only one response was possible ... EVACUATE! It was so essential to get our patient to the right hospital ASAP. A helicopter was rung immediately.Inadvertently, we chose incredibly well! ERA International Hospital ... www.era-hospital.com ... was not a beautiful choice, because it specialises in Altitude Related Conditions, nor was it the right one because its focus is predominantly on assisting international visitors. It was the right one, because Dr Manoj, Dr Thorang and their staff have created an extraordinary team philosophy of relationship centered medicine. It is an approach in which the patient assists the Doctors in their diagnosis. These Doctors prefer to trust the powerful instinct of their ill guests. They listen to them. Their approach is driven by respect and relationship building. It is an approach in which they see a member of their own family in every patient. It is an approach in which the treatment of the patient considers a wholistic approach. Even the financial worries of the patient might be addressed to alleviate stresses. In their mission as Doctors, it is clear that love for all people comes first.Observers would say that it was this approach that enabled both Doctors to thrive as physicians in Covid ravaged Nepal. Their hospital was adding 30-50 mattress beds per day. Tents were erected just to create more beds. Oxygen bottles were shared just to keep the growing numbers alive, but through it all patients praised the loving commitment and dedication they experienced from these two wonderful practitioners of medicine. This is an episode in which one's profession has become an extension of their life, or is it the other way round? Has one's career set the platform to become a true lover of life and humanity. Gee you will enjoy this episode. Ep 2323. Andy Loney and Darcy Elks - 50 Years Separated Them. One Journey United Them
He was 70 when he decided that he still had it in him! Even the decision to trek to Everest Base Camp over 13 days separates Andy Loney, a grandfather of 6, as unique. One of his companions was a beautifully curious, 'let me tackle the world', 21-year-old. His name was Darcy Elks. Darcy strode to Everest Base Camp with confidence and assurance. Andy finished up needing a horse to get him to the base of Sagarmartha. He had never ridden one! Darcy still had energy the next morning to take on a bigger challenge ... the ascent of Kala Patthar to 5600 metres. His reward was a conversation with Everest.Same event ... same expectations ... different journeys! So how does a resilient gent of 70 years see this massive spiritual adventure?Does a 21-year-old see it differently? What did they learn from each other? What chat did they have with the spirit of the Himalayas invading them? What was their experience of the Sherpa spirit ... of their beautiful Buddhism? Here we have the different paradigms of youth and elder. Or were their perspectives different at all?Different views ... different learnings ... what conclusions did they reach? This is an intriguing episode, where three people own the microphone to share their learnings of their most powerful experiences on the road to Everest Base Camp. Ep 2222. Rob Duff - He Was Joy For the Entire 130klms to Everest Base Camp
Sometimes, one is just lucky or did we attract each other? Were our spirits aligned with so much communal joy that coming together was only a matter of being in each other's vicinity.Well, that's the way it feels when I first met today's guest on that mighty trail to Everest Base Camp. Rob Duff for every one of those 132 kilometres was WALKING JOY. You couldn't help but notice him. He talks with passion and rare energy. There is something alive in Rob that just seems to make him permanently happy. People notice. This episode will describe an extraordinary Love for God and Jesus, that makes one realise that belief and faith is mighty powerful and capable of filling one's heart and spirit with overflowing love. Rob Duff exemplifies this. Don't expect an episode in which someone is going to try to sell you Christianity. That's not Rob's style. In fact, Rob doesn't have to sell you anything because ROB as WALKING TALKING LOVE is THE MESSAGE. Love from Rob Duff follows his every step. Just ask 23 orphaned children in Lesotho, that land blocked country within South Africa. Thanks to Rob's drive and dedication, they have LIFE, as he and his Irish colleagues build homes and find foster parents to look after 5 to 6 orphans per house. So far, they have built 4 homes and 23 children have been rescued. Their charity ONE DAY is making an extraordinary contribution. If you want to hear Rob's passion for this extraordinary work, then you must tune into this video. For those who have ears to hear, you will love this episode as it clearly demonstrates that a pathway to SUSTAINABLE LOVE can clearly be found in an all-encompassing loving relationship with one's GOD.Be aware this episode might just swamp you with excess joy, enthusiasm and a high degree of authentic love. Ep 2121. Ravi GC - His DIVINE CONNECTION Brings POWER to Developing Communities
I was having breakfast at Kathmandu Guest House in Nepal when I noticed this young Nepalese man being warmly greeted by a large group of International Travellers. Ravi GC was loved by all of them. This is understandable, when you consider that Ravi had just led them all to a remote location in Western Nepal, where under the expert leadership of enthusiastic technicians, the group was able to assemble 'a Solar grid' and deliver electricity for the very first time to village residents. Can you imagine the moment when they turned on the switch and the light bulb glowed for the first time?Light in the home. Children being able to study and do homework. Laptops turned 'on' for the first time.Water pumps were able to bring water from nearby sources to the village center.Building tools could be powered to create additional housing.Agricultural machinery operating efficiently to harvest crops. The benefits were enormous. This video will explain. What is even more amazing is that Ravi GC at just 35 years of age has inspired this outcome in 84 different villages. The question this podcast asks Ravi is 'Why'?Afterall, he has an Electrical Engineering Degree. Ravi could build a mighty professional career in this Himalayan powered country. Demand for his skill and knowledge would be enormous. Why choose such a charitable community existence, the remuneration of which would be a third of his financial capability? Welcome to this incredible story of a young man, whose servitude and love for people is not comprisable. Be aware, this episode is likely to make you re-evaluate!Bernie K +61 412982444Ravi GC +977 982 5195465

Ep 2020. Chris Andersen - Maximise Life by Learning to Connect With ALL People
If you created 2 social events per month that attracted 30 to 100 mainly strangers, what would you learn about people? If your intent was to earnestly chat and connect with the great majority of them, what connecting skills would you discover and develop? This is the world of Chris Andersen, the well-known host of 'Beer with Mates' that meets monthly in the town of Brisbane, Australia. They are wonderful events. I know this for certain, I have been there and enjoyed Chris's hospitality many times. The question I asked of Chris was 'why'? Why does Chris Andersen create such events? His story of hiding his bi-polar from ALL but the few and climbing the corporate ladder is a story of confusion and uncertainty. Now, by his own admission 'he has never been in a better space'. He has learnt how to manage his bi-polar in social settings so that it actually works FOR him. His desire to grow and evolve has become a foundation for loving life and as for 'Beer with Mates', that too is an incredible learning ground. Already, this interview has impacted me greatly from taking my attention off-self in social settings to intentionally making the person with whom I am chatting, feel most valued. At one stage of his life Chris read a 'self-help' book per week. He was thirsty for information and power growth. Now that thirst for learning has a contrasting mission. He seeks to see the good and speak the good of all people. Now Chris's passion is simply his own happiness. He values his work as long as it is an extension of himself, not at odds with whom he is or desires to become. His is an intriguing journey already. Chris is just 37.'Read these books' says Chris. They are game changers.'Relentless' by Michael Jordan's coach Tim Grover.'Social Intelligence' by Daniel Goleman and 'Mindsight' by Daniel Siegel are also must reads, but if by chance this episode stirs you to want to continue the conversation with Chris, then meet him at the SOAPBOX Pub in Gipps Street, Fortitude Valley on the first Friday of each month. You will be glad you did. I will most likely see you there too!Bernie Kelly +61412982444Chris Andersen +61424682636

Ep 1919. John Godwin - Their Cry for Help is a Cry for LOVE
John Godwin uses the word 'Sainthood' freely. It is not necessarily a religious reference nor is it a pathway. John describes it as a state or essence that exists in all of us. Even in his own life, he acknowledges those times where it was so easy to be distracted by the values of society and play the 'success' game. Fortunately for John and for thousands of people, mostly in their teens, John's call to serve and add value was never too far away. It has bubbled within him, all of his life. When business colleagues betrayed his trust, John and his family were forced to relinquish their family home. Cast into doubt and uncertainty, John turned to the only thing that he knew was unshakeable ... his core values. Rather than dwell upon the pain of shame that he felt for letting down his loved ones, John chose to slowly rebuild his life without compromise for his innate call to love, create joy and add value through service to others. We are all so lucky that he did!Thousands of those that society deem 'disadvantaged or struggling' change their lives through his 8 lesson terms offered in his incredible Inspiring Brighter Futures program.Perhaps his greater achievement in this exceptional coaching experience is his ability to attract MENTORS ... one for every participant. At times there may be 300 participants with each of them having their own private mentor ... 300 participants ... 300 mentors. Doctors, Teachers, National Sports Heroes, Tradespeople, Mums and Dads they all want to contribute time and guidance. This is a testimony not just to the impact of the program, but to their appreciation of the values and character that define John Godwin. This podcast is loaded with gems. John knows the pathway to creating inner happiness. He sees it clearly and he lives it daily. Like most of you who listen to this podcast, he sees it as his journey, smiling to himself when he occasionally catches himself straying from his joy of serving. John Godwin has a lot to teach everyone.Bernie K +61412982444John Godwin +61411470205

Ep 1818. Bella Cameron - Crochet Your Way to Love!
She was one of the brightest. Straight A's. Loved to study. Loved to do well in her exams, BUT ... She just didn't fit in. The body was frumpy and the Queen Bees even called her 'bloated'. The mental and personal anguish Bella Cameron felt as a 15 year old was enormous and slowly began to dominate her existence. By the age of 24, Bella's eating disorder preferred a day-stay in bed rather then attending a University lecture. Her world began to crumble. It was time to UNLEARN!Inspired by sound therapeutic guidance, Bella started to let go of the things that society had taught her and in the process discover the creative ways of the beautiful child within her that once played so joyfully. While others now define their lives by the amount they can cram into a single day or by their status and accumulating success, Bella values space ... space in her day. She values time to crochet. She sees it as a form of meditation and an opportunity to keep 'thoughts of the past' at bay. She treks with nature. To her, life is now a game of climbing ladders! It is more about maximising the current moments.I regard this as one of the best episodes yet. It is a story about 'how society can get in the way' if we let it. It is a lesson in how to convert pain and chaos into a greater capacity to love, if we want it. It is a story of courage to be true self and not let anyone define you. It is the story of 29 year old Bella Cameron, who crochets and in the process has discovered a wisdom beyond her years.
Ep 1717. Brett Lee - A Pioneer in Internet Safety Education and a Love that Protects!
Brett Lee was a detective for 23 years. His job was collecting evidence that protected the community from 'the bad guys'. In the process, Brett didn't realise, he was amassing profound information that would one day protect thousands of our children from the sinister forces of the Internet. Now, he is the definitive expert in this country around Internet Safety. Brett and his amazing organisation called Internet Safety Education help schools, teachers, parents, and students, recognise the dangers and 'undesirables' when on social media. He even coaches prep and kindergarten kids! At the time of this podcast, he had just started a week, which involved 17 presentations to the rural schools of Western Qld. Everyone wants Brett Lee and so they should for his experience and 5 simple protective strategies enhance the safety of our children on the NET by 90% if comprehensively applied. First is recognition and understanding that NOTHING on the Internet is private. Absolutely NOTHING is PRIVATE and Brett proves it in this podcast ! What is interesting about his 4 other strategies is that if parents have the courage to 'tough love' them into action, they are more than likely to boost the esteem and comfort of their child substantially! In this podcast, you will hear how the internet 'normalises' behaviour that might just challenge the values of your home and indeed the traditionally accepted values of society. You will hear discussion around the question of self-managing 'one's sexual preferences and desires'. Is this a missing part of our educational program? Self-management education may well be a key for those whose innate sexuality is at odds with social or community acceptance. It is a fascinating conversation, during which books such as The Way of the Superior Man Online Training | David Deida and Screen Resolution by Brett Lee - Internet Safe Education are referenced. If you are a parent this is a must listen for you will learn of the authority you have to courageously love your child in a way that protects and enriches them. It is an intriguing hour for anyone who serves the education of children and for all else, you will find this podcast an absorbing insight into how your privacy on the net is illusionary. This is such a different in-your-face real world podcast. Most enjoyable and enlightening. Bernie Kelly +61 412982444Brett Lee +61 7 31391181

Ep 1616. Happy - That Is His Real Name and There Is a Reason For It!
ParkRun is a phenominal organisation. No matter where you live in the world, you are likely to find a ParkRun starting at 7am every Saturday morning. Run by volunteers, it's an opportunity to run 5 klms with the community and get timed. I once went to London and found a ParkRun in St James Park outside of Buckingham Palace, but the New Farm ParkRun here in Brisbane, Australia is even more royal. Not only does it attract over 500 runners, but it is an opportunity to meet a unique character. His name is 'HAPPY'. Yes, this exuberant, lover of life, joyous American brings something extra special to the ParkRun experience. He has a smile and a laugh for everyone, a flower for the girls, a celebration 'yelp' for the finishers and a camera to capture the highlights. Everyone knows 'Happy'. Some privately question 'how could anyone be so 'Happy'?What's his secret? In this podcast, you will learn that it is not complex.Learn that we can all drink from a well of 'enthusiasm' that lives inside us. It never dries up, yet according to 'Happy' some people forget it is there because they have allowed the joy to be knocked out of them by the inevitable challenges of life.Simple acts of kindness are fuel for your own 'levels of happiness'. Being bold and living on the edge helps too! It makes life exciting and fun.Embrace this episode and let one man's journey and perspective of life remind you that 'Happiness, Joy and Love of Life is not only a choice. It is a lifestyle.
Ep 1515. Bernie Kelly with Taylor Pearce and 5 MASSIVE QUESTIONS
Five of Bernie's previous guests wanted to give Bernie a taste of his own medicine. They appointed Taylor Pearce to interview him and their questions certainly weren't lightweight. So what would you say if asked...How do you create more self-love?How do you let go of your fears and anxieties? What are the secrets to being an effective coach of your team, your staff, your children?Ian Suter, wanted to know of Bernie's daily routines that serve his loving state.Start with reading Bernie's favorite book ... 'The Book of Joy' by Douglas Abrams ... it will teach you why 'Perspective' is perhaps your most underrated gift. Bernie even discusses one of the blessings of Covid.Facilitated by Taylor Pearce, Bernie offers so many gems. This episode is full of strategies and actions that you can apply to your own existence right now and receive immediate reward.Oh! ... and wait till you hear Taylor Pearce in Bernie's role. Is Taylor planning a mutiny!
Ep 1414. Ian Suter - My Parents' Foster Home taught Me to See All People Equally
Ian Suter is Canadian by birth but is an extraordinarily happy man by nature. He adores his wife, creates exceptional ‘family’ and prefers to first see the best in ALL people. His work as the principal of his own real estate company, Suter Smith Cleine, is purely an extension of who he is. As he intimates in the podcast, ‘It is nothing to do with money. It is everything to do with the joy of serving people’. The question this podcast attempts to answer is ‘How did he come to see life this way’?Well, who would you become if these were your life experiences? During his first 16 years, he shared his toys, his meals, his time with the Foster Home that his parents provided for 130 different children. Now, that’s a different childhood! They became his pseudo brothers and sisters. He tells the stories of them and what they taught him. In late teenage and early adulthood, he worked as a Chauffer, a Level ‘A’ bodyguard, a bartender and bar manager in 23 drinking establishments across 3 different countries. He learnt how to connect with people. He developed valuable contacts that enabled him to work his way into ‘the rich and famous’. He had lunch with the CEO of Disney and crossed paths with Arnold Schwarzenegger on 3 separate occasions. He had conversations with the richest men in the world, Michael Lee-Chin, Warren Buffett, and Charlie Monger. He learnt about their ego and sometimes ‘their lack of it’ that enabled them to be successful and happy at the same time. Now that’s different! He saw patterns in the way people thought, responded and lived that enabled him to learn what is truly valuable. Ian Suter is the product of an extraordinary childhood, vast range of different experiences and the lessons he has gleaned from his curiosity for ALL people. He has learnt from those who drunkenly wanted their 7th martini for the evening to those whose names are in weekly magazines.I found the last 20 minutes of this podcast to offer exceptional insights.Tell Ian what you think. Write to him at [email protected]. Ian also explains why Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People should be a mandatory read for any child in upper secondary school. If only education would value these types of educational experiences! You will so enjoy this vibrant, fully alive and beautiful Canadian gentleman.
Ep 1313. Steven Gilbert - Life is like a Pizza Supreme... Colourful, Tasty and Satisfying
Steven Gilbert has Pizza Sauce running through his veins! He owns 11 stores in the regions of North Brisbane and Newcastle which employ 450 staff. Yet meet him in the family home or at his Redcliffe store and you will see the same passionate man, full of life and love for his people. He doesn’t refer to himself as a business owner or a Domino’s Franchisee. He sees himself as THE COACH and responsible for the developing life skills of all employees, many of whom are tasting their very first job. His work culture emphasises fun, games, rewards and celebration. Some of his employees have grown with him over time to become permanent business partners. Steve proudly developed their personal and operational skills to the point, where vendor financing them into part ownership of his stores was the obvious next step. He calls it the ultimate ‘win-win’ and thanks Stephen Covey’s ‘7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE’ for inspiring him. What is remarkable about Steve Gilbert is that his joy and enthusiasm for life invades everything he does. He speaks of his relationship with his wife Briony as if he was still ‘a teenage boy’ on his first date. Every Thursday is ‘daddy’s day off’ with his kids. He is at his happiest when all aspects of his life - family, health, work, staff – are being served in a single week. Such work-life balance is his foundation for constant joy.Not only will you hear some wonderful ideas on how to generate self-love and happiness, you will feel it in his voice. Ep 1111. Merryn Tuck - Love and Connection as a Business Strategy
Disillusioned with the education system, Merryn Tuck decided in her mid-50’s to leave behind 20 plus years of teaching. This was a mighty tough decision, because as a teacher she had few peers. Students adored her. Parents loved her impact on their children, but she could not continue to serve a system that challenged the manner in which she connected with her classroom. She decided to become an Air BnB agent. Someone who manages the properties of owners and creates experiences for their guests. When I first met Merryn and her business partner Alison, they were managing just 3 properties. I have since learnt that two of them were their own!! Her competition were big agencies flushed with technologies that could analyse data and identify precisely the financial yield of that property at any time of the year. I chose Merryn’s Host Your Home Airbnb Property Managers Sunshine Coast because it was obvious that these two ladies were hungry and keen to serve, serve, serve. Wind the clock on two years later and Merryn Tuck has become an Air BnB global phenomena.Recently, she was featured in a global launch of HOSPITABLE HOSTS … STR Owners, Airbnb Hosts, Vacation Rentals Owners - Hospitable Hosts … a book recognising the very best Air BnB hosts on our planet. So, what is her secret? Why has her business already attracted nearly 80 properties already? Why does she receive weekly requests to manage more precious homes and beach abodes? In this podcast, you will hear of a business leader who manages her staff with love, nurture and connection. She empowers her staff. They are not cleaners. They are presentation specialists. They do not see her as the boss, at times she can be one of the girls! Don’t misconstrue this message, she also knows what ‘tough love’ looks like. She has asked four staff to leave.Merryn identifies the value she derived from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey and the Japanese Philosophy of Ichigo Ichie presented in book format by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia. She buys the latter book for new staff as their welcome gift. This is the story of a woman, who is unafraid to be herself in all dimensions of her life. Her work is merely an extension of who she is and what she values. It works! Host Your Home is flourishing.
Ep 1010. Bernie Kelly - Reveals How His Journey Has Shifted As a Result of His Podcast
As a point of differentiation from other podcasts, A Journey With Bernie stops interviewing this week and takes a breath to identify main learnings offered by our previous 9 guests. On reflection, the podcast is even more than that. It is Bernie himself explaining how the podcast that he directs and manages is actually shifting his own life! In Bernie’s own words ‘Bring on more of these weekly learnings and even more opportunities to grow, because it is just a sensational way to live’.This episode is different. Delightfully different. It has 13 excerpts from the 9 guests who have defined A Journey With Bernie so far. Even though the topic is the same each week, it’s all about love, meaning and happiness, this summary episode will highlight how each of our guest taps into so many different ways to enhance our capacity to give and be more. Tony Groom through Nature. Slatts through innate joy. Skip through a Morning Routine. Joel Staite finding greater life and meaning through pain and chaos. John Buchanan through purpose and doing what is important. Every guest approaches the pathway to love and happiness through different angles thereby offering Bernie and you the listeners a multitude of thoughts and ideas on how to add greater meaning to our lives. Themes such as Meditation, Living in the Now, Letting Go of Past, Power of Nature and Love of People are themes beginning to emerge as valuable, but what do these focuses look like on a daily basis. This episode will paint that picture. This podcast also offers access to other valuable resources. You will hear of the 10-day Vipassana Silent Retreat (Vipassana Centre Queensland | Dhamma Rasmi) and a profound programme led by Liz Turnbull – Psychotherapy and Meditation. Podcasts by Rich Roll, Tim Ferris and Sam Harris are endorsed. They are easily found on Spotify or Apple. Books such as Inner Engineering by Sadhguru and The Courage To Be Disliked by Kishimi and Koga are strongly advocated. You will definitely find this episode beautifully different with our show host, Bernie Kelly, bringing you the best of A Journey With Bernie so far. Imagine what 100 episodes will look like!
Ep 99. Peter Darcy - The Search for Greater Joy is a Life-Long Quest
Peter Darcy may be the only student ever to get a worse Year 12 result in his repeat year then he did in his first attempt. Yet, it never stopped him from calling on his zest for life which was inspired through early childhood adventures in Papua New Guinea. Exploring the townships and venturing into virgin forests taught Peter to be independent, to step outside of comfort zone and to believe that he could handle any issue. Yet in his own words, he found it so easy to fall into line with conventional living of building a commercial empire, growing the bank account and taking the roads most commonly travelled. His real estate agency thrived on his enthusiasm and energy but lacked realism and sincerity. Consequently, when cancer arrived in his middle years of life, he saw it as a tap on the shoulder from the ‘big fella upstairs’ that he needed to re-visit and re-evaluate his values and reflect on what truly brought meaning to his life. The landscape is changing now. He embraces his spirituality. Sees greater opportunity to demonstrate love in all dimensions of his life and claims that he has never been driven by more hope and vision than now. Peter is 62 and if there is one line in this whole episode that will hit a nerve is Peter’s strong request ‘to stop looking in the rear vision mirror’ for fear that the past tarnishes the now and distorts our hopes and vision for our desired futures.Peter’s book of the moment has been inspired by Episode One guest Emeritus Professor Kenneth Pakenham. Ken’s book ‘The Trauma Banquet’ offered by MoshPit Publishing can easily be obtained online through the usual channels of Booktopia, Amazon, Angus and Robertson etc. It is truly a mind-blowing read.Peter so welcomes your feedback and connection. Simply go to www.darcy.com.au where all contact details can be found. Peter is waiting to hear from you.
Ep 88. Joel Staite - Ordinary Guy Says 'Thank you' to Cancer
Someone asked me last week ‘Which podcast so far is my personal favourite’? I refused to answer because all offer such different value, but I did say there is something very, very special about this episode. It starts with this unique circumstance. At age 31, Joel Staite, a competitive cyclist and Ironman discovers blood in his urine, ignited by a rare cancer called Collecting Duct Carcinoma. This erratic condition only affects 50-60 people globally per year. Talk about against the odds! It has a dire life expectancy. Joel’s pathway to combat this dreaded attack on his body started in 2016 with the removal of his kidney. In 2018, on his 33rd birthday, Joel had 6.5 litres of fluid drained from his abdomen indicating that his tumours were getting worse, not better. Quite simply, if a second immunotherapy drug didn't work, Joel had less than 12 months to live. So, what was Joel’s response?Joel chose to let the prospect of death inspire a desire to truly live. He embraced the stimulation of visiting developing countries with multiple trips overseas. He threw himself into strengthening his body by training for and completing Olympic distance triathlons and long cycling challenges like Mater Smiling for Smiddy. For many who know him, Joel has become a beacon for human potential. Fine tuning the right mind-set through meditation practices has been high on Joel’s agenda. He eats predominantly plant based foods. So far, he has gained three great years. In his own words, Joel summarises his evolving view, “Life is so precious. We never know what is going to happen, so just make the most of every single day. Maximise today. Maximise the current moment.” Not so long ago, Joel received great news. “Whatever you are doing … just keep doing it, because your cancer is retreating.” Despite this favorable turn around, new tumours near his liver and spleen threaten. Joel’s answer is to keep fighting with a balance of both medical and spiritual solutions. Bravely, he willingly put his hand up to trial a new drug designed to stop feeding the cancer with protein. There have been side effects, but more importantly his tumours have reduced by 40%. His battle continues. This story of Joel Staite will teach you so much. Expect to learn how to draw strength for adversity. See why pain and chaos can sometimes be a blessing. Be inspired by how the prospect of death can actually be a catalyst for greater love and life.Joel will embrace any support you are willing to offer which is why you can email him at [email protected] or even better help Joel’s personal mission to raise funds for Cancer Research by donating to https://fundraise.mater.org.au/fundraisers/joelstaiteI figure the learnings from this podcast is worth $1000’s, which is why a $100 donation to support Joel is most certainly in order. What say you?Now listen to this wonderful man. It’s worth hearing twice!
Ep 77. John Slattery - Service Is Not A Dirty Word... It's a Pathway to Happiness!
Don’t Google the name. You are not likely to find it, yet in my eyes this man is a rare, uncommon, everyday saint. It’s not because of great organisations he has built or millions of people he has impacted, it is because of his way of life that serves everyday people on a daily basis. I watched John Slattery for years give his time and energy to thousands of young people who were just searching for a listening ear. He gave it to them willingly, joyfully and with wisdom. He was instrumental in laying down the cultural and spiritual foundation of The Australian Youth Development Programme, now known as yLEAD. His early presence and way of engaging with youth still resonates today. Now at the age of 70, he simply drives a bus for the elderly who relish his morning joy as he transfers them to their medical appointments and shopping needs. What makes this podcast guest so unique is that he truly knows how the young see life, but he also knows intimately the inevitable life conclusions of the elderly as they approach the other end of life’s journey. That’s it. Slatts sees ‘the journey’ and in this episode he will share with you how to embrace from start to finish the joy of life. It’s easy to love this simple happy man. I sense you too will feel that connection throughout this outstanding podcast.
Ep 66. Nathan Longman - I Needed to Change My Life So I Climbed Mt Everest!
We met outside a quaint little bar in Kathmandu. He heard the Aussie accents and quite frankly, he just looked Australian. The cultural connection took over and soon revealed that we were talking to the first Tasmanian ever to climb Sagamartha - Mother Goddess - Mount Everest herself. Welcome to Nathan Longman. Just google the name. You will see news of Nathan’s incredible effort in multiple sites. What is fascinating about Nathan’s story is the WHY behind his incredible climb.. It was personal. It was very personal. Not only did Nathan need to prove something to himself, he also wanted to touch the hearts of the most important people in his life … his family. So what did he discover on his journey? He actually learnt that the journey not the destination was the great teacher. He learnt that by investing in himself in such a profound way, greater love for self was always within him. He just needed to stop living in the past. Nathan Longman discovered pathways to becoming a more loving human being. It is hard for me to imagine that anyone listening to this podcast won’t find a gem … a piece of gold in this frank discussion with one very brave individual. Yes my dear people, this is a must-listen.
Ep 55. John Buchanan - Former Australian Cricket Coach - Finding Your Everest
Sir Alex Ferguson and Phil Jackson, Coach of the Michael Jordan led LA Lakers are household sporting names, but neither man can match the coaching record of today’s guest on A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE. John Buchanan delivered Queensland their first ever Cricket Sheffield Shield in his inaugural year as Qld coach. They waited 68 years for the trophy to enter The Sunshine State. Under his coaching tenure, the Australian Cricket Team became the first side ever to win 16 consecutive Test matches. They won Test Matches that were perceivably unwinnable. They were the first side to score 400 runs in a one day game. They were the World One Day and Test Champions at the same time. They are the only team that can be mentioned in the same breath as Don Bradman’s ‘Invincibles’ of 1948. They created their own legacy while ‘Buck’ was the coach. How did he do it?He will be the first to acknowledge the skill of his great players, but in this podcast you will learn of the strategies and actions John implements to assist his players to see more, do more and be more. Certainly, after this episode you will be asking yourself ‘What is my Everest’? His insights are gold.Of course, you can read about them in more detail in his terrific book ‘If Better is Possible’. To learn how business and groups can access the skills and teachings of the great coach do get in contact with ‘Buck’ at:Buchanan Success Coaching| Welcome to Online Business Coaching (buchanancoaching.com)For those of us who want to focus and activate our higher potential this hour with John Buchanan is a must-hear.
Ep 44. Taylor Pearce and Jasmine Weston - Stepping Into The Unknown
They were kids just out of high school when they were given safe opportunities with Global Immersion to step into the world of their ‘Unknown’ and the breadth of what they discovered has stayed with them forever! Unforseen courage, wise insights and loving hearts continue to direct their lives today. How come the natives of Tanzania and Kenya were the friendliest people they ever met, when they had so little? Why should they embrace ‘us’ with such joy and enthusiasm, when we don’t even talk to our neighbours? Why didn’t the African mother not panic, when her 2 year old baby was nowhere to be found? Why were the people of the slum more attached to each other than their iPhone and were happier for it?Is it possible that the simple, uncomplicated and uncomplex lives of these beautiful African and Sherpa people inspired a greater ‘we’ connection with humanity then all the riches of the west? How did the immense challenges of ascending Kilimanjaro and trekking that mighty trail to Everest Base Camp help both Jasmine and Taylor discover qualities within self they didn’t even know they possessed? From these extraordinary encounters, Jasmine and Taylor returned to Australia questioning some of the very values which had previously shaped their lives. For Jas, her fortitude and resilience was tested beyond the max, when on the first day of her Kilimanjaro climb she discovered that her new home had become a victim of the devastating 2011 Brisbane Floods. The unbearable anguish inspired some of her greatest learnings which continue to influence her life today. You will learn why the philosophy of ‘it is what it is’ might just be a guide post to greater happiness. This episode is so much more than exotic travel stories. It really is a personal exploration of the benefits of seeking outside of comfort zone experiences which inevitably will draw out of you dormant qualities that are just waiting to add more value and meaning to your life.Taylor welcomes your contact anytime to discuss his experiences and particularly your enquiry into future adventures with Global Immersion … [email protected] … 0419195953.Jasmine as a highly qualified and reputable personal life coach would love to hear from you and assist … [email protected] Feel free to contact both. You might just want too after you hear this wonderful episode.
Ep 33. Tony Groom - Nature is our HOME !
Tony Groom is 83 years of age and yet he is still riding 30 plus klms per day, taking groups for 75 klm walking hikes and a member of The Queensland Choir. Recently, I went to see his choir deliver an inspirational rendition of Hanzel’s ‘Messiah’. It was sensational. Tony is sensational. It was his Father, Arthur Groom, who along with Romeo Lahey inspired the hinterland mountain lodge known as Binna Burra. Had it not been for these two gentlemen, we may not have a World Heritage Lamington National Park today. They founded it. Poor management nearly destroyed it. Tony rescued it by giving people a variety of ways to access and embrace the power of nature. Creative Art Experiences, Gardening Week, the Binna Burra Senses Trail for visually handicapped, Photography Week, and Running High events were inspired by his 1973 Churchill Fellowship that gave him a 4 months study of National Parks in North America.
