Good evening, friends, fiends, and night owl supremes! Let's get (more) ghosty! Follow my voice once again into the dreaded Bly Manor, for this spooky calm reading of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw!" (Part 7!)
Welcome back for the ghost story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 7 (Chapters 18, 19, and 20!) Tonight, Miles (with Peter Quint) successfully distract the governess from watching little Flora (and, of course Miss Jessel). How? He plays such a compelling piece on the piano that she loses herself and dozes off for a bit. By the time the governess comes to herself, she realizes she has lost track of Flora and KNOWS she is up to something with Miss Jessel. She rushes off to brief Mrs. Grose, and the two of them search everywhere for the little miss, finally going to the Bly Pond. They don’t see the boat, and the governess is convinced that Miss Jessel told Flora to hide it to cover her tracks. Her hunch proves right. After a “really long” 10 minute walk around the pond (heaven forbid), the governess and Mrs. Gross catch Flora. Miss Jessel is there plain as day to both women… until she isn’t? Mrs. Gross, overcome by something, rushes to Flora and acts as though nothing is the matter! Flora says some nasty words to the governess, and asks to have her belongings removed from her room. This absolutely breaks the governess, and something MUST be done! This tale, Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw," is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy this evening's ghost story!
