Javier struck out eight and walked none, winning for the third time in four decisions. Ryan Pressly pitched a one-hit ninth for his 28th save in 32 chances, finishing a four-hitter. The AL-best Astros are losing in on their sixth straight postseason appearance. Last-place Detroit is on the verge of its first 90-loss season since 2019. Rockies 3, White Sox 0 – Freeland outduels Cease, Rockies blank White Sox 3-0 Kyle Freeland outdueled Dylan Cease and put a dent in a push by the Chicago White Sox for a playoff spot, pitching 6 2/3 shutout innings as the Colorado Rockies earned a 3-0 victory. The White Sox fell four games behind AL Central-leading Cleveland with 19 games remaining. Chicago travels to Cleveland for a makeup game Thursday, and the teams return to Chicago for a three-game series starting Sept. 20. Freeland frustrated a Chicago lineup that was 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position. He worked around seven hits and three walks, striking out five. Freeland has posted a 2.17 ERA over his last four starts. Chicago fell to 20-9 in games started by Cease. Cubs 6, Mets 3 – Peterson tagged early, Mets fall to Cubs 6-3 and get swept David Peterson got only one out and the slumping New York Mets fell behind early in a 6-3 loss that completed a three-game sweep by the Chicago Cubs. The NL East leaders lost their fifth consecutive home game and dropped to 5-7 in a 16-game stretch against Washington, Pittsburgh, Miami and Chicago — all more than 20 games under .500 this season. Chicago started to click in the second half against San Francisco and pulled out a surprising 19-10 win in coach Matt Eberflus’ debut. The Bears finished with 204 yards after managing just 68 in the first two quarters. But there were sparks in the second half that they hope can propel them forward. NFL – NFL on Prime Video latest foray by leagues into streaming The NFL is set to make its debut with a streaming service on Thursday night. Amazon Prime Video will show the Los Angeles Chargers’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s the highest-profile of a series of deals between sports leagues and streaming services. NHL games will be shown on both ESPN+ and Hulu. Major League Baseball has deals with Apple TV+ and Peacock. Industry experts say viewers are becoming more comfortable with streaming games and advances in technology have made it seamless. Tampa Bay’s 19-3 win over Dallas Sunday night averaged 24.5 million and last Thursday’s opening game, in which Buffalo routed the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams 31-10, attracted 21.3 million. The Coast Social Network with United Way of Southwest Michigan – Tuesday, September 13, 2022

Heather Cole from United Way of Southwest Michigan gets us ready for National Voter Registration Day on September 20 with details on important dates and resources available to help you at uwsm.org! United Way is joining efforts all over the state and country to encourage people to register to vote and get ready to vote in the November election. We have heard so many times from people all over our community that they feel disconnected and they want to be part of conversations and decisions about their future. Voting is such a great way to become more connected and a part of the process. And voting districts have changed this year. So you may be voting in a different district than you have before, could be voting for different representatives than you have in the past, and you may even have a different place where you cast your ballot. So it’s important to get ready to vote this year, because so many things may be different. UWSM has some links to great voter resources on our website that can help you make sure you’re ready to go, whether you plan to vote in-person, vote by mail, need accessible voting resources, we’ve got links and information that can help you. UWSM.ORG Some important dates to remember: September 20 is National Voter Registration day – Mark your calendar and take some time next week to make sure you are ready to vote. Absentee voting for the general election begins at your clerk’s office on Sept. 29. The last day to register to vote online or by mail in the general election is Oct. 24. The last day to mail in your ballot for the general election is Oct. 25. You can do same-day registration at your clerk’s office, so it’s never too late to register! Nov. 8 is the General Election.
