The New South Wales government is investing $15 million in six new tilt wagons for Sydney's rail network to improve maintenance efficiency and reduce service disruptions. The technology aims to minimise downtime during scheduled track work and was prompted by an overhead wiring failure in May that left trains inactive for 48 hours. The new maintenance equipment will be deployed from July 2024.
