Victoria Police fatally shot a man during Operation Summit in northeast Victoria, believed to be Desmond Freeman, the suspect in the shooting deaths of two police officers on 26 August. The operation concluded after a standoff where the armed man refused to surrender peacefully and was shot by members of the Special Operations Group. Chief Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed the shooting was justified and brought closure to the families of the slain officers, Neil Thompson and Vadim Devart Hothart.
