Dezi Freeman, a double cop killer wanted for murdering senior constable Vadim de Vort-Hotar and Neil Thompson, has been shot dead by Victorian police after a seven-month manhunt. The fugitive was found living in a container in a small town on the New South Wales border following a tip-off that led to a three-hour siege. Freeman emerged from the container wrapped in a doona and armed with a gun before police opened fire, ending the 216-day search that involved hundreds of officers from multiple jurisdictions.
