A man believed to be cop killer Dezi Freeman has been shot dead by police in bushland in northeast Victoria following a three-hour standoff. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed officers made contact with Freeman at 5:30am, pleading with him to surrender peacefully before the fatal shooting occurred. Police are now investigating how Freeman evaded capture for six months since the August shooting of two police officers in Port Punkah, and whether anyone assisted him during that time.
