Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith has been charged with five counts of war crime murder and will remain in custody at Silverwater jail. His legal team has sought a bail review hearing for 17 April at Downing Centre Local Court, where a judge will decide whether the 47-year-old remains in custody or is conditionally released. These are the most serious allegations ever brought against an Australian serviceman, with Roberts-Smith facing life behind bars if convicted, though he has always maintained his innocence.
