The Australian government has deployed 90 SAS soldiers to the Middle East amid concerns about potential regional escalation. The deployment follows the United States sending 5,000 Marines to the region in preparation for a possible ground invasion of Persian Gulf islands. Australian officials have stated the country will not participate in offensive action, though a Wedgetail spy aircraft has been stationed in the region since mid-March.
