Show Notes
As the world mourns the loss of Henry "Hank" Aaron, DOB and EOF welcome former Braves pitching coach and soon-to-be Braves Hall of Fame inductee, Leo Mazzone, to discuss Aaron's life and impact on himself and baseball. Mazzone, who worked under Aaron while he was a team executive, reflects on working with 'Hammerin' Hank', who offered him the opportunity to coach in the Big Leagues.(1:00). Mazzone reminisces about coaching alongside Bobby Cox and Joe Torre, and shares his philosophy to those pitching staffs of the 90s and early 2000s that he mentored (8:00). The trio swap tales of Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, Atlanta's 'Big Three', and the latter threes' pitching careers (25:45). Mazzone recalls Atlanta's 15-consecutive division titles from 1991-2005, and the mentality and philosophy he and Bobby Cox nurtured in Atlanta's clubhouse (37:00). To close, the group discourses the state of pitching and how it compares to when Mazzone coached (46:30).
