二战尾声阶段，一些爵士音乐家感到大乐队摇摆已经走入了死胡同，摇摆乐编曲者为乐手即兴独奏留下的空间很小，而且“和声”与“节奏”单调老套，在Charlie Christian 1941年与众多音乐家留下的系列录音中，他们发现了爵士乐的新的走向。在随后一系列音乐家的共同努力开拓之下，一种新的爵士乐风格Bebop——比波普诞生了，人们也常称其为“咆哮乐”。
