Livestock Conservancy vs. one of the most popular breeds according to the Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook by Deb Robson and Carol Ekarius… 

  • The Livestock Conservancy lists the Southdown Sheep as “Recovering” and the Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook describes them as the sixth or seventh most popular breeds. I believe this may have something to do with the way the Livestock Conservancy obtains their data from breeders association (registered sheep) and the popularity of the breed as a pet where they may not be registered. You can read more about how the Livestock Conservancy updates their sheep conservation list and the priority levels here:
