RELEASED: 5 SEP 2019 Tiwa Savage's 2019 song, "49-99," is a socio-political commentary on the struggle and poverty faced by many in Nigeria. The title and message are directly inspired by Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti's famous phrase, "49 sitting, 99 standing," from his 1978 song "Shuffering and Shmiling".
