The moving story of the life of baseball legend Lou Gehrig, whose tragic death and early retirement as a result of ALS touched the entire world. ALS has since been known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Millions of people enjoy visiting Madame Tussauds Wax Museums each year, but only a very few know the macabre history behind the first one that opened in London in 1831, containing the death masks and wax figures of actual victims of the French Revolution on 1789-1793- which were made by a 20 year old young lady named Anna Marie Grosholtz who had trained to be an artist and sculptor of wax and worked in the employ of her uncle at his shop in Paris. Through that work she became close with the sister of the King, and when the revolution broke out she was sent to prison- soon to be released with the agreement that she would provide death masks and lifelike wax figures of the often royal victims of the guillotine including Marie Antionette, Robespeirre, and many others. She later parlayed her horrific experience into a business which has lasted to this day.

Heinrich Himmler, second in command only to Adolph Hitler, rebuilt Castle Wewelsburg (pronounced VIVES-BORK) in Germany to house special meetings which included all types of idol worship and satanic rituals for his SS commanders, to which he gave Death's Head rings to symbolize their lifelong devotion to the Nazi party. The castle served as a training academy for new SS, where they were steeped in Himmler's own view of Aryan history, a center for exploration and archeology that supported his theories of a master race, and a laboratory for engineering study of a crashed UFO which was brought there for study., and from which the Nazi's developed a flying saucer. Over 11,500 "death rings" were returned to Himmler, who hid them prior to the end of the war, one legend being that he buried them in a crypt below the castle.

In 2002,, according to this legend, a special forces unit which had been sent to find a missing patrol in the remote mountain area of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, encountered a 12 foot tall giant just outside a cave mouth, the floor of which was littered with bones and pieces of communication equipment. The Giatnt carried a spear, with which he attacked on of the soldiers, running the spear through him, all the while growling and showing signs of wanting to kill them all. They began firing and eventually the giant fell dead. he was picked up by a helicopter using a cargo net and removed from the area. The soldier who had been speared died. The event was hushed- again, according to legend. Author and giant hunter L.A.Marzulli and partner have brought the story to life through books (The Long Walker- The Return of the Nephalim) and Interviews (On The Trail of the Nephalim) as they continue the search for biblical creatures called Nephalim which may still inhabit remote areas of the Kandahar Province. In this story we also dig into the biblical accounts of giants (Nephalim) and giant folklore home and abroad, including written accounts of giants given by Capt. John Smith, A Paiute storyteller, and hunter-showman Buffalo Bill Cody.

After the untimely death of Captain John Paul Jones in Paris, a funeral was provided as well as a lead-lined coffin, and the coffin was deposited in the New Orleans area of Paris, a graveyard for non-citizen Protestants. This occurred during the height of the French Revolution, and the papers marking the place of burial were burned, making it difficult years later to locate. In addition, the cemetary became vacant, was filled in with 15 feet of dirt, and used for the building of cheap tenements served by septic tanks as well as a burail yard for dead animals including horses. It was definitely no way to treat a hero- but no one cared at the time and through the 100 years that the body beneath the heap. In 1898 the new Ambassador to France, Horace C. Porter, honored his earlier pledge to recover Jone'sbody and return it with honor to the United States, which had made their naval hero an honorary citizen. It took 6 years to find John Paul Jones- and this is the story of that search and what it means to the US Naval Academy to house the remains of the Father of the American Navy.

When Congress gave the OK to form a volunteer cavalry brigade, Roosevelt got busy recruiting-specifically men who could ride and shoot- and soon had applications from all over the US. Within weeks he had nearly 1,000 men from every walk of life- lawmen, cowboys, Indians, gamblers, college athletes, clergymen, backwoodsmen, frontiersmen, prospectors, and more- all of whom had one thing in common- they wanted adventure and they wanted to fight for the American flag. This is the incredible two-part story of a true American hero, John Paul Jones, a man who sought nothing for himself, and all for his adopted country, for which he fought bravely throughout the American Revolution as a naval Captain, bringing honor to the fledgling American Navy. In part one we cover his boyhood, which was spent studying naval journals and languages, with hopes of becoming a sea captain, as well as his entry into manhood after he left home in Scotland at age 13 to become a seaman. When war with Great Britain broke out in 1775, Jones was assigned to command one of 5 ships that the new American navy placed into service to harass British shipping as well as their coastline, in return for the damage they were doing to our undefended coast in America. The British had 1,000 ships at their disposal- many of them well-armed warships. The US had 5. John Paul Jones was the first to raise the new Stars and Stripes above an American ships. He captured over 40 British ships in his career, and brought home (or delivered to our French allies 150,000 worth of captured supplies. He was a consummate naval strategist and contributed greatly to the early growth of our navy- later earning the title "The Father of The American Navy" for his contributions. He died in Paris, France, in 1792, was mourned by few, and nearly forgotten for over 100 years, his body, wrapped in a sheet, laying without a marker in a forgotten cemetary near Paris. When Theodore Roosevelt was appointed Assistant SECNAV in 1897 his #1 goal was to raise the power and status of our US Navy- and he began with his pledge to recover the body of the missing John Paul Jones and restore his rightful reputation to hero status. It took 6 years to locate Jone's body- but it was done- and that incredible story is told in part two. The battle between the Bonhamme Richard and the Serapis is told in detail here in part one.

It was March 21st, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, at about 9pm, when the first 7,000 or more ticket holders streamed into the Cleveland Arena with high hopes of seeing 5 of their favorite Rhytm & Blues artists perform for a huge dance. By 9:30pm, the place was filled to capacity with over 9,000 teens- but there were still more than 10,000 more "Moondoggers" waiting outside. The doors broke down, glass shattered, seats were ripped from their moorings on the floor, and pandemonium ruled for the next hour. It was all the creation of a talented WJW radio DJ named Alan Freed, who, on his midnight shows, had been promoted The Moondog Coronation Ball for weeks. It was the first of many firsts that night- the first rock concert and dance, the first dance to which black teens were invited (although they made up 99% of the crowd), the first time "Rock and Roll" came to mean good music with a beat which could be enjoyed by all races, and the first time a concert had to be shut down by the police. Freed would go on to earn the title "The Father of Rock and Roll" and make 4 movies starring as himself, R&B would be recognized as the progenitor of Rock, and Cleveland, thanks to that seminal concert, would be chosen to host the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Legend of the 13 Turtle Moons is a powerful example of the Indian's belief in oneness with the earth. Look on the shell of most fresh water turtles and you will see 13 large scales. The Indians believe that these 13 scales represent the 13 new moons which occure in nature and make up the full year. Each new moon begins a 28 day "month" - 13 months make up one year (364 days- leaving one day for rest). . Add to this the fact that there are 28 platelets surrounding the full edge of the turtle's shell- those 28 representing the 28 days of each of the 13 months. No wonder that the Indians chose the turtle to be the main player in the creation theory which we share here. As for the white buffalo- many northern tribes believe that the rare white buffalo is a signal of change and a time to make peace. These animals are held to be sacred.This is the legend of the white buffalo and the introduction of the peace pipe to the Indian tribe of the Lakota Sioux.

The incredible true story of Jack Dempsey, the tough Irish prize fighter who popularized modern boxing and held the heavyweight title from 1919-1926, losing it to a controversial decision in his second fight against Gene Tunney, Jack Dempsey was a living legend and made New York City his home, running a restaurant there well into the 50's. His nickname was the Manassa Mauler- "Manassa" because he came from Manassa Colorado, and "Mauler" because he mauled his opponents in the ring, many times before they could rise after being knocked down. In June of 2014, David and Maria Broaddus were making ready to move into their recently purchased dream home in Westfield, New Jersey, when a mysterious envelope addressed to "new occupant" arrived in their mailbox. The letter was both creepy and threatening in tone-assuming that the person who wrote the letter and signed it with"The Watcher" had a strange personal connection with the old house. As follow up letters arrived, the Broadduses delayed moving into the house, fearing for their three children. City, federal, and private investigators got involved, and although they turned up some possibilities- they ended with no suspects. Netflix won a bidding war for the story this past December, and just a month ago the Broaddus family sold the house at a huge loss to an undisclosed buyer. Scots-Irish Timothy Murphy, born 1751, died 1818, was an American frontiersman and top rifleman who served in the American Revolution, turning the tide of the battle at Saratoga , served at Valley Forge, and joined the fighting at Boston, Long island, West Chester, Monmouth, Princeton, Yorktown, and the Mohawk and Schoharie Valleys of Upstate New York, where his courage and fortitude saved the Middle Fort at Schoharie from destruction by refusing to surrender the fort while facing the combined forces of the British Army and Loyalist-led Indian warriors numbering at 1,000. When the producer tried to pitch the idea she was turned down 43 times before a tiny independent named Vestron gave it a greenlight. The film budget was only $5million at a time when films cost $12 million on the average to make. The two co-stars had acted together before in the surprise hit "Red Dawn and the rumor was that they didn't get along too well. The weather extremes varied from 105 degrees F to 40 degrees within 43 days. When the final screening came, one movie exec said "burn it and collect the insurance". The two stars ended up having breathtaking chemistry. The film came in on budget. When it hit the theaters in 1987 people loved it- it made $40 million in its first few weeks. Then it went on to become the top grossing independent film ever made. It is still considered as one of the top 100 movies ever made. And it was inspired by a true story. The Uintah Mountains of Northeaster Utah are one of the most scenic places in North America and said to be a prime destination for wilderness hikers, backpackers, and sportsmen. It also attracts gold seekers due to its history of being a source of gold deposits for both the ancient Aztecs and the early Spanish explorers, who enslaved many of the local Ute Indians and forced them into laboring in the mines. When the Mormons settled in Salt Lake City, 100 miles west of the Uintahs, they learned from a Ute Chief of the location of a rich mine in those mountains, but only if a pact could be made and kept that only one man could know the location. The secret to the location died with the descendants of the man who made that pact- and only a very few Utes know of its location. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Shark attacks have been steadily on the increase for the past few years, and many people believe that this increase is due to federal and state laws limiting catches and protecting predator species like the Great White and the Bull Shark. Annie Oakley was a 5 foot tall American sharpshooter who overcame a very hard childhood to become an international celebrity traveling with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. She developed her skills early as a child hunting and trapping with her father until he died and she was indentured to a cruel family in Ohio which she later referred to as human wolves. As a bounty hunter, he was a man crime deterrent against rustlers, but in 1901 his kill for hire work made him a perfect foil for a set-up, and he was framed for the killing of a 14 year old boy. After conquering all of Asia and Europe from China's coast to France, Attila The Hun had amassed an incredible treasure of gold, silver, and artifacts- enough treasure that it required an atmy just to protect it. When he died in 453 AD, according to one account, he was interred in three coffins- an outer one of lead, a middle one of silver, and an inner one of gold. His huge treasure, which is thought to be priceless, has never been found, although it is still searched for today. This is the story of Attila the Hun and the search for his missing gold.

When General George Washington reached Valley Forge in December of 1777 with a defeated army of 12,000 men, the future of his command and of his army as a fighting force was soon left in serious doubt. There were no log houses for the men. Their clothing was mostly rags- most of the men had no boots. He pleaded with congress, 40 miles away in York, PA, for food and provisions, but they were turning a deaf ear. On October 3, 1759, a company of nearly 120 men under the command of Major Robert Rogers attacked an Indian Village on the St. Francis River between Montreal and Quebec, killing most of the occupants and looting and burning the Jesuit Mission that supported the town. The loot taken from the church included gold candlesticks, coins, a gold calf, and a ten pound silver statuette of the Madonna holding the baby Jesus. This was done during the French-Indian War, and as the raiding party escaped southward the French and their Indian allies the Abenaki were in hot pursuit of Rogers Rangers, who had hundreds of hard miles to cross and no food or supplies to support them. the Ranger party split up, many died, and much of the stolen treasure, including the Madonna, was lost in the New England wilderness. The historical value of the Silver Madonna, which has never been found- priceless. This is the story. In 1909 the Phoenix Gazette published an incredible story about an archeological find, sponsored by the Smithsonian, of a cave within the Grand Canyon which supposed held a large store of artifacts thought to belong to an ancient civilization. The story quickly faded from sight, but was revived in the 70;s by certain authors seeking attention for exposing what they felt was a massive cover up being perpetrated by the Grand Canyon National Park and the Smithsonian. .In this story we discuss the original article describing the find, three audacious hoaxes pulled off in those times (over 100 years ago), and the truth regarding the origin of the Kincaid's Cave story. Amelia Earhart and her co-pilot and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared in the Pacific Ocean on the next to last leg of her round-the-world flight on July 2nd, 1937, and the U.S. Navy, after an exhaustive search of the Pacific which did not include the Marshall islands, released a statement saying that Earhart and Noonan's Electra ran out of gas and crashed into the ocean somewhere near Howland Island, where the Coast Guard ship Itasca reported hearing her say they were running low on gas and could not see the island. Beginning on that day, July 2nd, dozens of radio transmissions from Earhart were heard over the next 6 days by radio receiver stations, military and civilian, hearing Earhart giving her call numbers and asking for rescue- yet no rescue was attempted and the reports were ignored. In this episode we talk to Chris Williamson, Project Director of Chasing Earhart, regarding theories and information provided by the many Earhart experts who have provided research on this subject and others concerning Earhart's disappearance including Dave Horner, author of The Earhart Enigma, who we quote here in part. The year is 1914.
