Ken Ward, returning to the team's quarters after his fight with Graves, is confronted by Coach Worry, who asks him how his face got banged up. Graves appears a few minutes later in worse shape and gets a tongue-lashing from Worry.

The team plays an overconfident State University team and teaches them some lessons. After the game, the coach warns the team of their only weakness- that of every man on the team adhering to the rules of curfew and rules regarding no smoking/no drinking. But one player is going against the grain- and Ken calls him out.

In The Spring- A young man goes outdoors on a warm spring day and finds his attentions are riveted on a beautiful young girl- but before he can approach him he is pulled aside by an older man who insists on telling him a story about the dangers of love. The Emperor's New Clothes: The ruler of a kingdom is duped by a pair of conmen pretending to be weavers who convince the emperor that only the ignorant, or those unfit for their jobs, fail to see the fine clothes they will make for the king. The word gets around and when the king dons the clothes, he and everyone else can see that he is standing in his underwear, but no one has the moral courage to tell the king that he is standing with very little on. All are afraid they will be thought ignorant or unfit to hold their jobs. Sir Pelias, one of King Arthur's top knights, makes a promise to Lady Guinevere that he will go on a mission to defend her honor, and leaves her company unarmed, promising he will capture another knight's armor and return with great deeds accomplished.

In part two the travelers are growing more and more resentful of Boule de Suif as she continues to say no to the German officer- and they concoct devious ways to try to convince her that it is her patriotic duty to give in. Featured here: "La Marseilles" (near end), is the National Anthem of France. the song was written in 1792 by Claude Joseph Roget de Lisle in Strasbourg after the declaration of of war by France against Austria and was and is considered a patriotic war song. You might remember in Casablanca (at 1001 Heroes) in Rick's Bar, as the Germans began to sing their patriotic song, the free French in the bar countered with La Marseilles. First published in April of 1880, "Boule de Suif" is one of Maupassant's most famous and important stories. The term 'Boule de Suif' is most often translated as "Dumpling" or "Ball of Lard". The use of this no longer acceptable term for bigness was prevalent in those days and society's upper crust felt no guilt in using it in the presence of persons they thought of as coming from a lower class. In this story a carriage load of persons escaping the German occupation of their city of Rouen, France are traveling to Havre where they believe their French countrymen are still in control.. The division of classes evident throughout the trip allows Maupassant to hand a stinging rebuke to the ills of French society at the time, as one of the passengers, a courtesan, meaning a prostitute, is nicknamed 'Boule de Suif'.
