Akil Godsey of End It joins the show for a conversation that’s equal parts reflection and release. Hailing from Baltimore, End It has built their reputation on unfiltered honesty and chaotic energy — a band that channels the city’s grit into hardcore that’s both feral and deeply human. Akil talks about the cycles of death, debauchery, and the strange internet nostalgia of the MySpace-core era that shaped how he sees connection and identity today. From the band’s early days cutting through the noise with their unapologetic attitude to their place in the modern hardcore scene, Akil brings humor, self-awareness, and a rare willingness to confront the messy parts of living loud.Weekly Recommendation Playlist presented by Evil GreedSubscribe to the podcast on YouTubeRockabilia sells you officially licensed Merch from ALL your favorite bands (and your Dad's favorite band, your siblings etc...). She reflects on the impact Blink-182 had on her formative years, not just as a gateway into punk and alternative music, but as a band that showed how vulnerability and humor could coexist. A tried and true screamo hero of mine, Billy Werner is on the podcast this week. He is the lead vocalist from the reunited Saetia and also sang for Hot Cross. He's a true gem of a human and happy to bring you this conversation in which we discuss his formative time at NYU, ABC No Rio and playing with Men's Recovery Project. Saetia is releasing their first new music since coming back on Deathwish, so make sure to order that post haste! SET THE STAGE, we have Marshall from The Warriors hanging out with us today on the show. The Warriors are from Tehachapi, CA and started playing together in 2002. They quickly captured the attention of many with their interesting blend of Rage Against the Machine meets 108 style hardcore and were extremely active throughout most of the 2000's. The band is back with a new LP, their first since 2019, entitled "Burn Yourself Alive" on Pure Noise and Marshall is a different person than he used to be. We discuss operating off of instinct, having no real plan for life and growing up in the high desert.Listen to the Official Outbreak Podcast here (executive produced by yours truly) Weekly Recommendation PlaylistCheck out Thirty Something Records and pre-order the Suzzallo LP now!Subscribe to the podcast on YouTubeRockabilia sells you officially licensed Merch from ALL your favorite bands (and your Dad's favorite band, your siblings etc...). Sean Ingram from Idle Heirs and Coalesce has made his triumphant return to the show almost 10 years later, and for good reason....his new band! You must listen to Idle Heirs if you haven't already as it's a beast of an LP and expands on Sean's vocal range in some incredible ways. We discuss new beginnings, old friends and being pushed to be creative. Hope you enjoy! I am thrilled to welcome an old friend of mine to the show this week, Patrick Piccolo from Caged View. Caged View is his new band that is really exceptional and about to release their debut EP on GGT Records (pre-order that!). Pat has been involved in punk and hardcore for many years and sang for bands like Beneath the Ashes and Embrace the End, both really important metalcore bands in the 2000's. Patrick also has a very interesting career as a sign painter! We discuss that and a whole lot more. The best thing to come from Philly since the Eagles championship this year in football? Possibly, but I think Matt the vocalist of Gridiron would have to disagree as his beloved Eagles are the most special thing about the city. Joking aside, I am thrilled to welcome Matt on the podcast as he sings for PA hardcore band, Gridiron who are on the verge of releasing their second LP called "Poetry From Pain" and I had to chat with him about all things sports, hip hop and repping the city you are from. George Hirsch. He's the frontperson of Blacklisted and his newest project, Staticlone is something you need to reckon with. I had him on the show many years ago and it provided a very thought provoking conversation and this time around is no different. He's a very introspective and thoughtful interview subject and we cover a ton of ground including his songwriting process, working in construction and the modern state of hardcore. Let's go! THIS NEEDS TO BE ONE OF YOUR NEW FAVORITE BANDS, OUTLANDER. Now that we have that out of the way, we welcome Joe House who plays guitar and sings in one of the best bummer rock bands out there. I had to get to know the band a bit more, so I invited him on the podcast and we did just that. We dug into the UK metalcore scene, how they write 8 minute long songs and being a "best kept secret".Listen to the Official Outbreak Podcast here (executive produced by yours truly) Weekly Recommendation PlaylistSubscribe to the podcast on YouTubeRockabilia sells you officially licensed Merch from ALL your favorite bands (and your Dad's favorite band, your siblings etc...). There's nothing more satisfying for me personally to welcome a guest on the show who's musical output I was impacted by at an early age and between Outspoken and the label he ran called Conversion Records, did just that. Dennis Remsing played drums for Outspoken and just started a new band called Minus Numbers with ex-bandmates in Drift Again. We discuss his early days getting into hardcore, why he stays attached and involved as well as starting a record label/distro. Some great lore in here, so pull up a chair and come hang! We have a damn fine episode today with one of the Bay Area greats, Mr Casey Watson. He's been a mainstay in the punk/hardcore scene in Northern California by playing in bands like Yaphet Koto, Look Back and Laugh, The Old Firm Casuals and filled in with bands like Cro-Mags and Good Clean Fun. Simply put, the dude has done A LOT and I was excited to have him on. We discussed what it's like playing in so many bands, improvising and being a road dog. Plus, he loves cacti, so we talk about that a bit as well. South Florida Straight Edge Metal is fully represented this week in the shape of Cosmo Vidussi from Contention. They released one of my favorite records from last year called "Artillery From Heaven" that is influenced by all of the late 90's stuff we all love, but updates it so it's not only a trip down nostalgia lane. Cosmo was a great chat about all things Florida and it's unique tax laws, being into core as an adult and of course, straight edge.Listen to the Official Outbreak Podcast here (executive produced by yours truly) Weekly Recommendation PlaylistSubscribe to the podcast on YouTubeRockabilia sells you officially licensed Merch from ALL your favorite bands (and your Dad's favorite band, your siblings etc...). Today we have the epitome of a "lifer" in the form of Josh James, the guitarist from Stick To Your Guns. He's also played in a ton of other bands like Evergreen Terrace, Casey Jones, 18 Visions and much more but he's on today to speak about his time in STYG as well as dig into Fat Wreck Chords punk, thriving in chaos and removing ego from what your art is (as much as one can). Josh is an open and honest dude so this discussion was a breeze and I hope you enjoy!Listen to the Official Outbreak Podcast here (executive produced by yours truly) Weekly Recommendation PlaylistSubscribe to the podcast on YouTubeRockabilia sells you officially licensed Merch from ALL your favorite bands (and your Dad's favorite band, your siblings etc...). THIS IS A BONUS EPISODE FROM THE OUTBREAK PODCAST. YOU SHOULD FOLLOW AND LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE YOU LIKE 100 WORDS...OR EVEN IF YOU DON'T YOU MAY LIKE THE VIBE OF THAT MORE. Two dudes, one legendary band...Integrity. I was incredibly happy to welcome Dwid and Aaron from the incredibly important, vital and influential band when they made their appearance at New England Metal and Hardcore Festival this past year. Returning to the podcast for the first time in over 7 years, we have the internet's best friend Brenden Murphy from Counterparts and End. FIrst and foremost, if you are in the greater Los Angeles area my heart and soul are with you. I live 45 minutes south and it's soul crushing. Visit this link for assistance and help where you can, financially/physically or otherwise. That being said, we all need to keep on keeping on with our lives to the best that we can and that's exactly what I am trying to do. Here's another great live discussion we had at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival with two bands that have very little to do with one another...but that's what I like to do, bridge gaps. First up, we have Liz from the self proclaimed "bimbo-core" band Brat. We discussed the New Orleans scene, touring with Gwar and a lot of other things. On the flip side, I bring on Dewey & Blaythe from straight edge warriors No Cure. This band is tailor made for me so I was happy to have this discussion and we roast each other almost immediately, it's perfect. Listen to their new LP that dropped on Sharptone...it's great. Today we throw you a bit of a curveball as usually we speak about punk/hardcore/metal and related DIY type artists but in this episode we cover something called, Nu Metal. Don't let that put you off because Kevin Palmer from TrustCompany isn't like the others...his band rules. TrustCompany came out at a time where every major label was jumping on this craze and TrustCompany got thrust into the limelight with a major label deal, radio play, MTV spins and everything but what makes this story unique is that TrustCompany...is actually good. Kevin and I discuss the bands beginnings (and their connection to Hot Rod Circuit...no joke), what it was like getting put into huge venues and what happens when a band ends and real life begins. Kevin was a great discussion and I urge you to listen to TrustCompany...they are great. Brought to you by the kind folks at New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, we have a great discussion with James from Ends of Sanity and Kevin from Since the Flood. Ends of Sanity have been cooking for a little bit with their own blend of metallic hardcore mixed with the classic style we know and love. James and I discuss his life coming from Long Island as well as managing bands like Drain and many more. Since the Flood reunited for this show and I was happy to bring Kevin on the show to chat about his experience in the New England scene, tattooing and a lot more. It's that special time of the year where we reflect back on our personal highlights from the year and take stock over what we actually LIKED this year and fortunately for us, I navigate these muddy waters with two of my best friends Jeremy Bolm (Touche Amore, The First Ever Podcast, Secret Voice Records) and Joey Cahill (Wanna Hear It Records). Continuing with our New England Metal and Hardcore Festival chats we bring on two metal pro's in the form of Guy from The Red Chord and in a separate discussion, Xavier from Upon Stone from Los Angeles. We even get a surprise appearance from Scott Lee who helps run the festival in one of the discussions. Both discussions hit on the blending of metal and hardcore, why the scene has expanded and a lot more. Anytime I can welcome an author on the show, I do but this one was a little contentious because Aaron Carnes offered up a full throated argument on why ska shouldn't get overlooked as a musical force. I personally think that ska, for the most part, is pretty awful (with some notable exceptions) but Aaron's book had me do a double take. We go into it here on this weeks show and truthfully, it was a pleasure. Aaron is incredibly thoughtful about his historical analysis of the subculture and we discuss some deep ska cuts, Reel Big Fish and ultimately the credibility of the genere. Buy his book and become educated and entertained. Here is the first of our series of chats that we had at this years New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and I am incredibly happy to welcome back to the program, Jesse Leach from Killswitch Engage. At the festival they celebrated being a band for 25 years and played a career spanning set that was truthfully, incredible. Jesse sat down, jet lag and all, to discuss the weird history of the band, his recent nuptials and a lot more. REBROADCAST FROM 2016:The year is closing but that doesn’t mean we can’t have an amazing discussion with arguably one of the biggest guests in the shows history. Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy, Sect, RaceTraitor and many more jumps on Skype with me one afternoon to discuss SO many things including but not limited to dealing with fame, friends as family and radical politics. It’s a wide ranging discussion that even uncovers a rumor that had been floating around since 2008 and we finally have it confirmed.Listen to the Official Outbreak Podcast here (executive produced by yours truly) Weekly Recommendation PlaylistSubscribe to the podcast on YouTubeSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
