Surfer to his core, yet somewhat of a juxtaposition to the stereotypical surf culture norms of either: a) being a laid back, soul surfing , spirit-animalorb) clean-living, mobility-training, paleo, breath-working enthusiast who is chasing the world tour dream. He might be none, or all of those stereotypes, running alongside and refusing to be categorised. A familiar, yet colourful contrast.Slippery raps about surfing, the activity he has done his whole life, and it is done with an urban street vibe...beachside. He grew up in the south-swell magnetic Sydney suburb of Cronulla, NSW, Australia; an area rich in slabs, whale migration, sharks, and crowds, crowds for days. And it seems like everyone who surfs around there rips too. Only the white sharks survive apparently.Maybe Slippery is a product of his environment? Maybe he is just a man who follows his heart? Either way, he is unique as fuck. For me, however, spending time with Kirk seems to highlight my own personal insecurities and the self-protection mechanism that I've built over years of social-conditioning and conformity. As we approach another year of uncertainty, as we witness our civil liberties continue to erode, it's no coincidence that this episode with Kirk is the first one for 2022. The term "free spirit" gets thrown around a lot these days, so my use of it in this instance is well considered. Kirk is a "free sprit".
